It's time the NCAA lets Miami go

08:09 AM ET 01.24 | From here, to uncertainty? The Miami case is now tainted beyond reason. We know that now. Mistrial. Throw it out, NCAA. Move on, NCAA. ... Now the overarching question after Wednesday's staggering news of NCAA impropriety in the Miami case becomes: Is the enforcement process, as we know it, done? Dead? Kaput? Is it time to outsource the most controversial department of a highly controversial non-profit, tax-exempt -- though extremely powerful -- giant? The answer would seem to scream, yes. The NCAA paid for the services of Nevin Shapiro attorney Maria Elena Perez to conduct depositions in a federal bankruptcy case in order to get evidence of NCAA violations, a source told CBSSports.com. That's not only improper, it's possibly illegal.

As if the Gov. of Pennsylvania suing the NCAA isn't enough already. Its incredible but not surprising that the NCAA can't even conduct its own investigation properly. Why would you and why are you paying Perez for access to witnesses. Even worse, Perez had the arrogance to send the NCAA an invoice for it, how stupid could you be? Its approaching year 3 on this and the taste of it is beyond sour now.

Shouldn't Perez be immediately brought up for disbarrement?

It makes one wonder, if the USC and now the Oregon investigation case, is/was "tainted"???

Let Miami go?
Have you ever heard the term, "two wrongs don't make a right" ?

Nuke 'em. Emmert can then fall on his sword, and post-Mark, the NCAA can be rehabilitated.

Here's the bottom line, folks. If any of these allegations are true, Miami needs to be punished. Make the process as fair as you can, but when the NCAA has so many restrictions in what it can and can't do, the process shouldn't be the issue. There are thousands of kids at universities across the nation who compete in sports fairly and honorably, who don't go looking for yachts and hookers and booze, and these kids are treated unfairly every time something like this happens. If this type a crap should be okay, then change the rules so everyone can partake without breaking the rules. But for the vast majority of people in our society, doing the right thing is at least as important as winning, and they shouldn't be punished because the rule breakers use the process to get away with stuff....

So are they going to give USC back their scholarships? Wasn't it the former UM AD who made sure USC was punished?

I don't know if a former UM AD was at fault, but I do know that the NCAA took the word of Lloyd Lake, a convicted felon, as part of their investigation against USC.

They probably have. Sports "news" people love to take shots at the NCAA, though, and go out of their way to stick up for schools, coaches, and players. To them, any ongoing investigation is a sham, and only boosters and the NCAA ever do anything wrong.

It absolutely was the u's former AD who dropped the hammer on us OT. Self righteous POS Paul Dee. He stated we "should have known what was going on". THAT was his reasoning for the penalties we got. All the while right under his pork ridden nose, a hell of a lot more was going on at his school. Let em go because once again, the ncaa is incompetent??? Bull Sheet.

And they took the words of two felons against Alabama. No proof whatsoever, so they busted Alabama on "created an evironment that this could happen in".
We want our victories back.

For some steak dinners??? C'mon SV, you are better than that man. Let's say only 10% of what Shapiro says is true. It amounts to a hell of alot more than 2 steak dinners. We lost 30 damn scholly's because of a guy who was not even remotely related to our program. Shapiro was a donor to your school. Sorry bro, you can't spin this one off.

NCAA has tried too hard to become supercop. They will now implode. Not sure that I think Miami should skate, but the NCAA have zero credibility. It will make any punishment they hand out harder to explain. I think Emmert's time as NCAA prez is almost done. Just like their own investigations, the top guy should have known what was going on during his watch. He can always go back and teach somewhere.

honestly it really isn't much more..
i would be PISSED if i was a fan of any of the schools that were handed sanctions in the past 10+ years.. the NCAA should vacate ALL of the penalties they've handed out, fire the entire staff, and start fresh.
