Leach no longer welcome at DeSoto (Texas) High School

08:10 AM ET 01.24 | Claude Mathis, head coach at Texas' DeSoto program and a former star running back at Southwest Texas State, understands the nature of recruiting. But what happened to senior defensive back Myron Turner, Mathis said, is just unforgivable. Turner, a 6-0, 175-pound safety for the 5A Division I semifinalists, took his official visit to Washington State last weekend. He'd been committed to Mike Leach since October, and -- according to Mathis -- had since spurned all other suitors. Nevertheless, Mathis got a call on Monday that Washington State was no longer going to honor its offer. ... "You just don't do a kid like that," Mathis said. "Washington State isn't welcome at DeSoto any longer."

I agree, but tell that to the USC haters that were complaining a few weeks ago, about USC not having room for Kylie Fitts as part of its early-enrollment group.

As I recall most on FN didnt think it was a big deal.

Maybe so, but there are a few posters on FN that still call USC and Oregon cheaters!!!

OT, while under the influence of Kiffin and his cadre, USCw sucks duck warts. Search your fellings. You know this to be true.
It's unfair to the band, man. They've only got so many years, too, man.

Oh bull SHEET. Like anything related to Lane Kiffin, the overwhelming majority was all over him about Fitts. Leach pulled the scholly completely. I expect pitchforks and fire from the lynch mob.

Leach is a jerk; period... But it is the kid's fault he put all his trust in one school.

Tin Man, I never said that USC "Didn't" suck the past two years, we all know that. I was referring to the article and I stated, some fans on FN was coming down pretty hard on USC a couple of weeks ago and calling them cheaters and liars, because USC didn't want, "Kylie Fitts as part of their early-enrollment recruiting group".

LOL, ICE, you are totally correct!!! The USC haters came down pretty hard on USC and especially Lane Kiffin a couple of weeks ago about USC not wanting, "Kylie Fitts as part of their early-enrollment group".

So the kid gets an actual offer. Not "hey we MiGHT extend an offer", but he gets offered and commits. For 4 months nothing changes, not a new coach, nothing. Then 2 weeks before LOI day they say sorry and pull it entirely??? Explain to me how that's the kids fault???

Good point and if WSU pulled the offer "with two weeks to go before LOI day", then maybe the NCAA should check into that???

I am wondering if there is something that Leach found out that maybe the high school coach doesn't know about or doesn't want to discuss? Leach has already been burned by a little thug who thought he was more important than the coach.

As a father of a former NCAA athlete I can assure you that nothing matters UNTIL signing day. You might apply for a job and be called back for many interviews and maybe even be told you are a shoe in for the job.. but you do not have the job until you have signed the papers.. simple as that.
I think that jumping to the conclusion that "nothing changes" in the four months is probably overstepping the boundaries because I believe in that time there were probably more tapes to view of his last games.

If you mean me, I was just pointing out the hypocrisy, because we got roasted over a DL recruit we had told for months we might ask him to grayshirt DUE to his injuries received that had not been rehabbed yet. Then about 4 weeks before signing day we said, yes we would like to grayshirt you." And he decided to go on with a televisewd announcement and he ended up looking bad.
And then we had someone not make it due to grades or something and he could have come on in, and he had already gone to Arkansas.
We have a grayshirt this year, but he asked to grayshirt, so we're all good.

You could be right, but if that were the case, then why did Leach wait until two weeks before LOI day, to determine that the kid wasn't right for his program??? Seems a little strange to me!!!

What you stated could be the case of Myron Turner and WSU, but IMO the important thing to remember, is why did Leach and WSU wait until "two weeks" before LOI day, to deny this kid a Scholarship???

No, I remember I might have said something about it.

Seems like there is more to this story. I do think this is different than asking to grayshirt, or even in Fitts case, wait until August, which is similar to grayshirting since it does get you on the next year, and you do wait for 8 months. Actually, asking them to wait all spring and summer seems worse than asking someone to wait from August to January... more months and all.
