I'm quite familiar with Irish history and it seems to me that most of their bad luck is self inflicted. However, having been to Ireland and seeing how beautiful the country is and knowing all the great people who have come from there, I don't buy into the pessimism. Now if you want a true hard luck tale, let me talk with you about the Welsh.

Ha. Ha. I am also familar with Irish History...and we may disagree a bit about the self-inflicted comment, but you did say "most," so...

I am Irish, and my humor is simply self-deprecating no matter if it is about me, my heritage, etc., etc.

Self-inflicted bad luck? I'm not sure that the Irish invited the English over and said "sure, stay for hundreds of years". Scotland would also have some issue with the hard luck of the Welsh. Basically the English have never been benevolent visitors anywhere (to put it mildly).

as a proud Scot, (whio is well aware of our history) I can say that we have all been treated...less than benevolantly...by the english. As bad as "The Famine" was for The irish..we had one as well...and read up on something called "the Clearances"...it's how so many ended up in Canada.
I wonder about the Welsh...I sense (and hope) they are merely marking time, and will rise up and surprise the doody of of the english.

The Welsh have looked at things differently than the Irish and Scots for a lot of reasons. I wouldn't hold my breath for a Welsh uprising anytime soon.
