Time for Avs to swallow their pride

08:11 AM ET 01.24 | Does Steve Downie's torn ACL, the one that ended his season, now put more pressure on Colorado to sign Ryan O'Reilly? While I still believe the Avs' offer to O'Reilly is fair -- five years at $17 million or $7 million over two years -- Downie's injury makes it more imperative that the Avs do something to make up for his loss. Yeah, maybe [Chuck Kobasew and Brad Malone] light it up in place of Downie, but otherwise the Avs still have a problem now with depth at the forward spots. Adding your leading scorer from last season, a 21-year-old kid with leadership and talent, wouldn't be such a bad idea. ... [The] Avs can well afford to do this. So, my view now is: it's time for the Avs to swallow some of their pride and make their team better.

Luckiest holdout ever. If the Avs wanna salvage their season they need him. Well played, sir.

Luck of the Irish?

So, my friend.

"It is an ironic phrase. The Irish have been, and are a spectacularly unlucky race. The "luck of the Irish" is BAD luck, as any reading of Irish history will document."

I'm quite familiar with Irish history and it seems to me that most of their bad luck is self inflicted. However, having been to Ireland and seeing how beautiful the country is and knowing all the great people who have come from there, I don't buy into the pessimism. Now if you want a true hard luck tale, let me talk with you about the Welsh.

Ha. Ha. I am also familar with Irish History...and we may disagree a bit about the self-inflicted comment, but you did say "most," so...

I am Irish, and my humor is simply self-deprecating no matter if it is about me, my heritage, etc., etc.

Don't what to hear about those Welsh _____. JK!

Self-inflicted bad luck? I'm not sure that the Irish invited the English over and said "sure, stay for hundreds of years". Scotland would also have some issue with the hard luck of the Welsh. Basically the English have never been benevolent visitors anywhere (to put it mildly).

as a proud Scot, (whio is well aware of our history) I can say that we have all been treated...less than benevolantly...by the english. As bad as "The Famine" was for The irish..we had one as well...and read up on something called "the Clearances"...it's how so many ended up in Canada.
I wonder about the Welsh...I sense (and hope) they are merely marking time, and will rise up and surprise the doody of of the english.

Some of it, yes. Any objective look would reveal that.

The Welsh have looked at things differently than the Irish and Scots for a lot of reasons. I wouldn't hold my breath for a Welsh uprising anytime soon.
