02:53 PM ET 01.24 | Restricted free agent forward Ryan O'Reilly has been released from his contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. The decision was mutually made by O'Reilly and the club. The explanation for the move was that O'Reilly had sustained a foot injury and that he was engaging in contract negotiations with an NHL team. O'Reilly is attempting to come to terms on a new contract with the Colorado Avalanche, but the two sides have failed to find common ground. As of Thursday, the two sides were no closer to a deal. Metallurg stated that O'Reilly potentially could re-sign with the club in February. This will likely be contingent upon whether he signs with an NHL club.
