John Elway is "mind-boggled" that Manti Te'o was fooled

06:56 PM ET 01.24 | Manti Te'o and the hoax he's so closely associated with is going to be a hot topic of debate come the NFL Draft Combine. Experts still aren't sure how the hoax will effect his draft stock this April, but any hope that Te'o can be a first-round pick seems to have gone out the window at this point. We've all heard what pundits and analysts have to say about Te'o's hoax but we've yet to hear from the voices that really matter when it comes to his future in the NFL. Executives and scouts haven't really been vocal about how they feel about Te'o. Part of that has to do with draft strategy but part of it also stems from most of the NFL still not knowing what to make of all this. Really, Te'o's going to be viewed one of two ways by scouts and executives. On the one hand, he'll be viewed as a con-man who deceived an entire nation for an entire season. On the other hand he'll be viewed as a naive fool who was duped by some college kid thousands of miles away from him. If Te'o is viewed as the con-man, as dark as it sounds, that takes some serious brains to achieve on the level he achieved it. But if he's viewed as the naive fool, that reflects poorly on his intellect and teams may not view him as smart enough to handle an NFL scheme.

Manti Te'o is an Academic All American at a school that offers no Phys Ed Degree (or any other "easy" path for athletes to get a degree). There is no question of his intellect. He certainlty appears to have been a "naive fool" in this episode but if he can demonstrate that he can play at the next level in the combines he will be drafted and probably pretty highly. Come on T & R, let's work a little harder in putting out threads to discuss. This one has been beaten to death...!

I say he was duped because he wanted to believe. Whoever took advantage of Manti's vulnureable naivete`is the real culpit.

"Come on, Hollywood does it all the time. People can do that."

Ronaiah was so good at tricking Manti Te???o that he was able to spend many late-night hours on the phone with his fake girlfriend without noticing she was actually a he."

The Manti Te'o story is getting stranger and stranger.

I am mind-boggled that the star linebacker of Notre Dame couldn't find a real girlfriend on campus.

His draft stock went down when he looked like a totally lost high-schooler against Alabama.

Well John Elway's ex wife was fooled into thinking he was a class human being.

Maybe in your eyes but Alabama has made a lot of players look like that in the last few years. I see the NCG as a "non issue." It all comes down to the combines and how he grades out there. The NFL has been known to overlook some pretty serious "character flaws" if they think someone has what it takes.

I'm mind-boggled that Elway thinks HE won two Super Bowls. It was Terrell Davis, not Elway.

January 25, 2013  08:56 AM ET

I'm just happy that Elway was "mind boggled". Couldn't happen to a better slime ball.

Get a look at the size of Elways hands, if my hand were that Big!

And Tiki Barber is still flabbergasted...LOL

As a GM; are you going to risk your 1st round pick & millions of guaranteed dollars (and possibly your job) on this idiot? I think not; especially not in the first half of round 1. You can't waste your top picks. He has shown himself to be a buffoon; don't be surprised for more games down the road. Although; probably a good pick for the Cowboys or the Jets circus act.

John Elway = failed eugenesis experiment. One part of brain fully missing.

Te'o has a problem explaining why he didn't show up for the big game, do I see the second coming of Brian Bozworth?

The Boz! One of the bigger busts - but smarter marketings - in football. He's probably got a mouthful of Skoal riding down the highway to Guthrie.
