08:19 PM ET 01.24 | The Toronto Maple Leafs easily disposed of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night in the Pens' home opener, but an injury has put a damper on Toronto's celebration. In the second period of action, Maple Leafs winger Joffrey Lupul was struck in the upper body by a shot from teammate Dion Phaneuf. Phaneuf's shot resulted in a fractured forearm for Lupul. There is no timetable for Lupul's return. To make matters worse for the Maple Leafs, it was just two days ago that Lupul signed a five-year, $26.25 million extension. Last season, Lupul ranked second in goals (25), assists (42), points (67) and power-play goals (8) for Toronto. His presence on the ice will be missed.

Well I guess Dion was always used to offering up the high hard one to somebody's seconds, only this time the results weren't as fun...

Agreed. Lupul's a good kid. It's not his fault he was traded to To***to.

Totally agree. Wasn't he the one (could be wrong) taking all the crap at the last All-Star game, the boo'ing, name-calling, etc.? I remember thinking he handled it all so well.

The truth hurts sometimes.

This might be a little contract extension Karma. It seems you always hear about someone signing a big contract and then going out an getting hurt. Or maybe its just the general Maple Leaf bad luck.

We don't call it bad luck, we call it unfortunate circumstances.

Sadly, in addition to everything else he's apparently forgotten where the net is this season...

I hope Bozak can feed him in front now that Lupul is out.

Chin up Danny. He's on pace for 24 assists this season. :-)

On the plus side he hasn't remembered where a corner is yet.
