09:57 PM ET 01.24 | Carmelo Anthony has filed an appeal with the NBA for the league to return money fined to the New York Knicks forward as part of his discipline for his confrontation with Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett earlier this month. After waiting for Garnett at the Celtics' team bus following a game on Jan. 7, Anthony was fined $176,000 and suspended a game. NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson said that the discipline was "warranted," but players' union attorney Rob Klempner said otherwise. "In light of all the circumstances, including the fact that there was no physical altercation, we believe the discipline was excessive," Klempner said Thursday.
