Cameron: Firing was a 'brilliant move' for Ravens

08:00 AM ET 01.25 | Cam Cameron has been around football long enough to understand that being fired is all part of the game -- especially in the NFL. Until Dec. 10, Cameron occupied a high-profile position as the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. Then he was fired, and the Ravens began to thrive without him. The team's remarkable postseason run will culminate in a Super Bowl appearance against the San Francisco 49ers. Some in the punditry business have cited Cameron's firing as a catalyst for the team's success. If you think this annoys him, think again. "It was a brilliant move," Cameron said Wednesday at his home outside Baltimore. "Everyone on the team took a look in the mirror after that."

Firing me was a "brilliant move" Is he being truthful, saying he sucks, or sarcastic? That can't look good on a job application...

That kind of shock therapy can improve the team in the short run, but longer term, what will happen? These are the same guys and they're running a lot of the same plays that Cam put in. In a large part, their success is a continuation of what he built, just managed a bit differently.

I was gonna say the same thing. Who the hell wants to hire someone that thinks they're terrible as a coach?

I don't think Cameron was saying that he thought he "sucks". I think his point was that by firing him it made everyone get off their comfort spot and realize their job could be next. So it made everyone ratchet up their play some. That is the way I read his comments, if you read the second sentance to his comments that is where I get this thought.

At least Harbaugh was smart enough to cut him loose when he did.

I find it kinda refreshing that someone associated with the NFL doesn't have such an inflated ego that he could actually say this.

Been a long suffering Dolphins fan...watched this clown get within a miracle OT play of going 0-16 (ironically, it was the Ravens they beat that day). At least the Ravens had the foresight to fire him when the realized he is a TERRIBLE coach. What a joke.

I agree. Sometimes it's not about how good or bad you are at something. It's sometimes a matter of "fit", and needing a different set of eyes on something. Billicheck didn't work out in Cleveland...imagine if he never got another shot after that?
