08:17 AM ET 01.25 | Where restricted free agent defenseman P.K. Subban winds up playing hockey next has become an open discussion. The Montreal Canadiens and [Subban] appear no closer to agreeing on a new contract, and as the club continues to play games without one of their top blueliners, the possibility of the club trading Subban if they can't sign him is becoming a point of conversation. ... "I think it's ultimately heading toward a trade," said [TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie]. "They're just too far apart on the term of the contract - P.K. wants long, the Canadiens want two years - and they're probably at least $2.5 to $3 million per year apart on where they want to be. Ultimately I think this ends up in a trade."

PK can't play anyway...he gave his last Nike/Bauer stick to Scheifele.

Trade him. Trade him fast and trade him hard.

To Dallas...

We need defensemen and our team knows how to get contracts done.

they'll send him to Philly

He can't win in this situation. After a that "too long" lockout... PK would've served PK better, by coming out and playing for all he's worth.

Strange one. That far apart? Either Habs are being tight or P.K. is dreaming. Even if traded he wont get that kind of dough.

Well, if the rumours are true, Joe N is on the hot seat to show some progress this year, with a certain Irked fellow waiting in the wings if he doesn't show any...So I could definitely see this happening.

I saw that rumor on Twitter yesterday and nearly puked.

I understood the logic and all... but I don't get the sense (short of an utter collapse) that Joe is in any trouble down here.

Even if the part about the Irked being hired as an assistant...

I don't think his sexual orientation should have anything to do with it.

I think it's a little bit of both. He may be panicking a bit the way Montreal have been playing lately. They really shut Ovie down last night and Price stood on his head.

Flyers need help on the blue line, no doubt, but I hope they aren't that desperate, yet.

So how's Go Go working out for you? Niskanen is doing pretty good for the Pens.

Working out great! That was really one of those trades that worked out well for everyone. We needed a playmaking defenseman and he has lived up to every expectation. Gave up a lot but he is one of the "core" for the Stars.

Just need more from the other 5-6 - Lehtonen isn't going to survive facing 40+ shots a game.

And - glad that Niskanen has blossomed up there too. Knew that Neal would - that kid is awesome.
