Should Bucs mortgage future to acquire Revis?

08:00 PM ET 01.25 | At first glance, it seems like a no-brainer. Darrelle Revis is only 27, and is still in the prime of his career. He's athletic, smart, and has the ability to lock down any NFL wide receiver. If you've watched any NFL football over the past few years, I am sure you know all about Mr. Revis. The contract situation with Revis is where you may begin to pause. La Canfora points out that Revis is entering the final year of his contract, and will likely command the biggest contract possible for a cornerback when he hits the open market. This means twice to three times as much as what the Buccaneers were paying Eric Wright, but for an obviously better player. So should the Buccaneers consider Revis or would they have to give up too much of their future to get him?

The price tag is too high. Look what Dallas gave up to get Morris Claiborne, and look at how that affected their defense. Look what Asomougha did (or didn't do) for the Eagles. One player is not going to make that big a difference. Build your team smart, not flashy.

TB still are not good enough to compete with him. Not4 Nutten has the list of teams that SHOULD put up the bucks for him. The Jets will be rotten no matter what, so they have no reason to keep him. He could help put some over the top, not avoid 10 losses.
