07:02 AM ET 01.26 | Jerry Buss, whose 79th birthday is Sunday, has been the greatest owner in sports history, and the prospect of losing leadership that great is daunting for any organization in any field. In Buss' case, the plan is to hand the Lakers down to his six children -- already having daughter Jeanie in place to run the business side and son Jim the basketball side. Well -- Jeanie and Jim aren't speaking to each other. They haven't since Mike Brown was fired as Lakers coach in early November and the Lakers went through that unseemly, confusing, hurtful dance with Phil Jackson -- the love of Jeanie's life and now her fiance -- before hiring Mike D'Antoni. Whenever the sad day comes when the team has to be handed down to the Buss children, things promise to get even uglier.

Sad Day in Lakers land. Little Jimmy needs to be put out to pasture.

The lakers don't deserve any pity of any kind.

A reality program in the making!

Problems between the Buss ownership is really a nonsense story as far as what is happening on the court. I doubt the players are thinking "oh, the FO isn't getting along, let's stop playing.".

The Lakers have many problems to fix with their players if they want to contend next year. They need to get to it.

Now, the Lakers have to deal with the mess they have created, but they better think long-term, not just the present.

Kobe is still very good, but he doesn't have a lot longer to be a major factor.

Nash is almost 40.

Pau has been the whipping child of the organization for a couple of years.

And Dwight...totally wrecked the last franchise he was with, and is a free agent to be.

What do you do now to build for the future? That's the only question that matters for the Lakers.

Where's Jerry West when you need him?? Yes Buss was a great owner but he had Bill Sharman and West build those Championship teams.

QUOTE(#11):

I watched your Spurs killed my Mavs last night. That long layoff for the Mavs sucked. They looked really sluggish and unfocused! Anyways we'll see if the Lakers play the same way as they did last night. The Lakers were actually a team and not just a one man wrecking crew.

Your Mavs made a big come back starting at the end of the 3rd. They started the game cold and missed some open shots. If that hadn't happened, it would have been a real back and forth game.

Mavs are getting better and better. I think they make the playoffs easily and at that point, with Dirk 100%, they are going to be a tough team to play. I think the Mavs, Grizz, and Bulls are the three hardest playing teams right now. They get out there and pour it on. It will be a good post-season.

I did not see the Lakers last night, but given the boxscore, I believe you when you say they looked better. They play OKC tonight, so it will be an interesting game.
