Jerry Jones building Cowboys staff for Jon Gruden hire?

09:03 AM ET 01.26 | Jerry Jones is sure taking care of a lot of Jon Gruden's work for him as he assembles a coaching staff in Dallas now built around coach Jason Garrett. Whispers have been that Jones wants to hire Gruden out of ESPN's broadcast booth and bring him to Dallas. There is certainly circumstantial evidence in place right now that would lead you to wonder long and hard about the possibility. Monte Kiffin has been hired as defensive coordinator and he has brought with him Rod Marinelli to run the defensive line after Jones ordered Rob Ryan be fired. Bill Callahan has been giving play calling duties that have been stripped from Garrett, who was also forced to fire his brother John, the tight ends coach. The Cowboys have now hired Rich Bisaccia to coach special teams. He's at Auburn and also worked for Gruden previously in Tampa. If the Cowboys are successful in landing Bisaccia, they will have a good portion of the old band Gruden worked with back together. They will also have the most talented quarterback Gruden has worked with -- Tony Romo -- since an aging Rich Gannon.

Gruden came in to Tampa and won a SB on Dungy's work then changed everything and drove the team out of contention. Good plan!

I was born a Dallas fan, raised in a house of Dallas fans. Watched every game every week since I was born. But if Chuckie comes to Dallas the party is over. I'll be done with Dallas forever. I don't think JJ is stupid enough to do it , but he did hire one of Buddy Ryans' offspring, and CupCake, and Chan. This is very disturbing.

Can't do any worse than what they're doing now.. didn't think Gruden was a 'Yes' man though.. like the past 5 head coaches have been

You have to give JJ credit for some things here, he has brought in some very experienced coaches. You really cannot fault what he has done thus far much.

I don't think of Gruden as a Yes man. I think he would have input into the draft and other acquisitions.
But the pieces certainly look to be in place, huh?

Why would Gruden, or anyone for that matter, want to get involved in this mess of a team? Jerry is never going to relinquish control of "all things Cowboys."

I looked at the headline and thought 'yeah, right!' By the end of the article I'm going... "well.. maybe." Garrett is the ultimate lame duck. There is no way he can impose any sort of discipline on the Cowboys after the **** kicking he's taken this off season.

If Jerry suddenly woke up, he would offer the moon and the stars to Bill Cowher, then fire the GM and simply sit in the owners box shutting up. But as a long suffering Eagles fan I am hugely content that that will never happen!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't matter who they hire, until the day he dies, they will be known as Jerrys Team, let's face it he's not going anywhere, anytime soon! He's making too much money!

After being traded to Tampa Bay by Al Davis why would Gruden want to work for someone basically out of the same mold as Davis. It would make more sense for Gruden to go back and work for Al's kid who is be counseled by John Madden.

Right. Everyone has seen what J.J. is capable of the minute he becomes unhappy and decides that he knows better... that should scare away any coach that doesn't want to be included in a punchline that includes coaches like Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett.

Yes he has, but he continues to show that he is not content to let the coaches do their job. If he's that unhappy with Jason Garrett's performance he should just let him go. Now it seems like J.J. is trying to assemble some sort of "Gruden All-Star" coaching staff in the hopes of luring Gruden out of the broadcast booth, only keeping Garrett around in the event Gruden was to say "no thanks". Would Gruden really want anything to do with an owner who was content to embarrass his coaching staff the way he has so far? Like I mentioned earlier, if J.J. is not happy, he should just can them now and give them the chance to find work elsewhere, instead of trying to make an example of them. This is not much more than Jerry showing off for the crowd.

The real question is if Gruden is hired as the head coach, will Callahan sabotage the play calling in order to get Gruden fired so he can take over the team??? dum..dumdumdum..dummmmmmm !!!!!! Return next week for the exciting conclusion of.. As the Cowboys Learn.

Bill Callahan as HC of the Cowboys? That announcement would probably be followed by a fan uprising.
