Trade talks between the Orioles and Mariners involving Erik Bedard are alive, though other teams remain in the mix if the Orioles decide to trade their ace pitcher, Andy MacPhail said. The Orioles' president of baseball operations said yesterday that several other teams have inquired recently about Bedard. The Orioles have listened to inquiries for Bedard for more than two months, hearing from about a dozen teams. The Mariners, Reds, Dodgers and Mets were believed to be the front-runners.

Is Adam Jones going to be angry at the Mariners that they were going to dump him if this trade doesn't go through?

January 30, 2008  06:42 AM ET

I hope the Reds steal him from the Mariners. They need him more.

January 30, 2008  07:14 AM ET

If the Mets could land him they would have to go to the series with Santana, Bedard, Pedro to start games 1, 2, and 3.

Boy that House of David Club is tenacious! Lcaim!!!!!!!!!!

January 30, 2008  09:40 AM ET

Well we all know the Mets aren't in it anymore - no more trade stock valuable enough to land him.
The Reds? Seriously? Who do they have to trade??? Nobody.
Jones is the most highly touted prospect in baseball. He's been followed by Baseball America and other national publications for the last three to four years. I don't want to see him go, but it's a possibility.
And no he won't be pissed about the trade talks. He's said publicly he's flattered to be the centerpiece of such a big trade.

They better keep him or they are going to be looking up at the Rays all season long.

January 30, 2008  09:50 AM ET

Someone's value just went up, eh? I think he goes to Seattle and be done with it.

January 30, 2008  10:10 AM ET

donat, the Mets didn't have to give up Fernando Martinez in the Santana deal, and seeing that the O's were close to trading Bedard for Adam Jones, who knows? If the Mets are gung-ho enough to drain the rest of the farm system, they could offer F-Mart for Bedard. However, I don't think this is too likely to happen. The Mets got the ace they desperately needed.

January 30, 2008  10:36 AM ET

The reds have some of the best minor league prospects. Hopefully they won't give them away for Bedard. He is overated.

January 30, 2008  12:03 PM ET

As much as I would love to see the Reds get him, it probably won't happen. They're asking for a package including either Jay Bruce, arguably the top hitting prospect in baseball, or Homer Bailey, one of the top pitching prospects in baseball.

January 30, 2008  01:59 PM ET

And, out of nowhere, the Boston Red Sox trade for Bedard. Watch out it might happen sooner then you think !!!

January 30, 2008  02:17 PM ET

Sure anything could happen you never know what is coming NOT!!!!!

January 30, 2008  02:21 PM ET

what are the dodger prospects in this deal?

January 30, 2008  05:02 PM ET

IF the Red Sox got him without trading Ellsbury or Clay, then defenitly do it but not a deal with them in it. However, I think that the Mets may go after Bedard and have would great chances of going to World Series with him. They would have to give up Fernaando Martinez and maybe John Maine. My bet is that the Reds get him because they have best peices to offer. They had number 1 overall prospect and 3 others in top 50 list. If they offer Jay Bruce then the deal is almost completly done,

January 30, 2008  05:06 PM ET

I think the red sox and yankees may become players in this. I'm a Red Sox fan and I hope the Red Sox may offer deal around Lester (i hope to god not Jacoby), I like Lester he's a good pitcher, but Bedard well he's in a different category. Also the yankes may offer Melky or maybe, maybe Hughes if they're desperate.

January 30, 2008  06:15 PM ET

For the red Sox I can see a offer of Lester, Crisp, and Lowrie plus, possibly, Moss. Definitely no Ellsbury or Clay B. The Orioles with their decrepid team get 2 to 4 starters for less than one third of Bedard's future salary.

January 30, 2008  06:37 PM ET

crafty, how can you say Bedard is overrated??!?!?!? He'd win 20 games for Boston or New York, but he's pitching for a .400 team. He was leading the majors in strikeouts last year before he got hurt, and would have been a legitimate Cy Young candidate, too. I don't know what sport you've been watching...

January 30, 2008  10:37 PM ET

Bedard would be a welcome addition to ANY team in baseball.

Lester, Lowrie and Masterson for Bedard?

January 30, 2008  11:05 PM ET

To richard.todd65 - I would make that trade in a heartbeat!!!

January 30, 2008  11:26 PM ET

this has been one odd offseason. in any other year, two top level lefties like Santana and Bedard would've been traded long before now. its interesting to see teams hold off.

If the yanks and sox couldn't get Santana with the packages they offered, there is no way they are offering the same thing for bedard. He's good, but not as good as santana.
