Mavs' Roddy Beaubois 'tells on himself'

09:14 AM ET 01.27 | Roddy Beaubois blames nobody but himself. He's been the ultimate tease for 3 1/2 seasons with the Mavericks. He plays a game like Friday's 19-point, 16-minute evening against San Antonio, and coach Rick Carlisle says it's like the 25-year-old guard 'tells on himself.' Beaubois understands that sort of showing is what people want to see all the time out of him. But even though he's gone from the rotation to the inactive list and back again, he refuses to use that as an excuse. "It's tough, but the coach needs to see that the player really wants to fight for his part," Beaubois said. "At the end of the day, the coach is going to make decisions. I have to be ready to show him that I'm going to help the team." Beaubois, when healthy, has never lacked for enthusiasm or the ability to out-quick anybody he's going against. The problem has been that he's had to fight through injuries that have sapped his confidence. Beaubois has shown those infuriating glimpses of greatness, giving indications that he can be a rotation player -- perhaps even a starter -- but the consistency has never been there.
