Capitals GM of 14 years on hot seat

10:51 AM ET 01.27 | All eyes are on George McPhee. With the Capitals winless in four straight to start the season as they head into Buffalo Sunday for a matinee with the Sabres, many are wondering what the Washington GM is going to do to clean up this mess, if anything at all. It was a 5-1 loss to the Sabres that got coach Bruce Boudreau fired Nov. 28 with a 12-9-1 record. Legendary Cap Dale Hunter took the job before returning to the OHL's London Knights last summer and rookie coach Adam Oates has a difficult job ahead. For 14 years, McPhee has been GM of the Capitals. But many around the NHL are wondering if the pressure on him from owner Ted Leonsis has ever been greater than it is right now because this isn't the start that was scripted.

Is it just me or does George look like a Grade 9 English teacher?

First of all Mr. Writer if the Caps are in Buffalo today they will miss the game in their own building this afternoon. Second of all the Caps have to many selfish players like number 8 and not enough players who want to play together and win.

Speaking of amnesty, when is it time that Toronto starts considering using their second (the one after they amnesty on Komi) on Dion? After this year, he will only have one year at $6.5 million left, I say just eat it and dump him.

Then you can fully re-start on this Leafs team, and they would have roughly $28 million in cap space, with no one needed to be resigned. Use that money to get Luongo, and then overpay Getzlaf and Perry to come here, and you will still have a ton of cap space to try to rebuild the defense.

Not sure what free agent defenseman there are, but the Leafs should just tank, since they aren't gonna make it to the playoffs this year, and try to get into a position to get that Seth Jones kid.

Tomorrow the Sun will run a story that they are wasting their chance for a #1 pick by winning too early. :-) They have been playing poorly for sure.........running around in their own end, enough stupid penalties for full season already. Oh well. Too early to give up and there are more than a few surprises so far. I remember their first year at 8-67-5 and 1-39 on the road. They might do better this year but it ain't for certain.
