Indiana's best player isn't Cody Zeller

07:34 AM ET 01.28 | Yes, Cody Zeller is the big man on campus in Bloomington. [But] it's hard to argue about who IU's best player is these days. His name is Victor Oladipo. In the space of two or three years, he has gone from a raw athlete/dunker/defender into a well-rounded guard who can drive, shoot from the perimeter, pass and wreak havoc on defense. He is a prototype NBA shooting guard, a guy who can create off the dribble and guard multiple positions. ... If Oladipo enters the NBA draft, he'll likely be a lower pick while Zeller is a surefire lottery pick. But if you've watched IU basketball with any consistency this season, you know the truth: Oladipo, who really should be part of the national player of the year conversation, has been their best player and their most valuable player.

As an OLD IU grad (1955...there when they beat Kansas for the National title in'53), I have to agree. Taking nothing away from Zeller, whose last couple of games have been fairly bland, but who will undoubtedly make a big impact in many games to come, Oladipo is THE MAN! So exciting to watch at both ends of the court, and brilliant with steals. With no single school the unquestioned #1, March Madness should be stellar! I'm expecting a lot of upsets through the end of the regular season...though perhaps not Duke-like, and looking forward to the Hoosiers putting away the Wolverines this Saturday!

It's going to be a great game this Saturday, I can't wait. I must say I like Michigan more. You gotta give credit to the best PG in Division-I Trey Burke.

I completely agree with this assessment of Zeller vs Oladipo, particularly after watching the Indiana - Michigan State game. When confronted with formidable opponents at their respective positions, Oladipo shined on both ends, had terrific steals, and made life hell for the Spartan guards. Zeller got shut down by the Spartan bigs.
