Washington, Philly interested in Luongo?

07:40 AM ET 01.28 | In the eyes of many, the heat is rising on Capitals GM George McPhee, whose team finally reached the win column on Sunday after losing four consecutive games to open the season. ... Lots of teams are waiting to see where the dominos fall with Vancouver G Roberto Luongo before making a move for a netminder. Canucks GM Mike Gillis has told several teams he's not doing anything until he gets his asking price. Yes, the Edmonton Oilers have what it takes to acquire Luongo, but he wouldn't approve a trade there. The Panthers don't want to make a deal unless Gillis is willing to take cash back. The Canucks know the pressure is mounting in some markets to win and they'll find a desperate GM trying to save his job, maybe even Washington or Philly.

Philly could use a leighton replacement

Philly is not losing because of Bryz. They should stay away from Luongo

Or a coach replacement (I say that mainly in jest). Why put HIM in against Tampa?

Considering how compact the season is, it makes sense to put the backup goalie in the second game of back to back games.

Canuck would disagree.

They could but it won't be Luongo. Luongo isn't looking to be a backup and why would the Flyers take on another absurd contract? It makes no sense that the Flyers are in this.

All I know for certain is that we've heard the last of the Luongo-to-Toronto rumours unless he's still available come June. But this Vancouver team isn't winning the Cup. Gillis has to get every piece he possibly can to make a run.

I agree with this completely...

They're going to evaluate Bryz, and see if there is any improvement at all on last season. I don't think the Flyers are delusional enough to believe they currently have a Cup-worthy team (anything can happen, but this team is a work in progress). Making this trade during the season doesn't make a lot of sense. If he's still around come June, maybe then i'll believe they consider this. But not now.

As Drysdale said, the Flyers aren't losing cos of Bryz. They really only have one consistent offensive threat in Giroux. If the young guys (Schenn, Couterier, Read) develop into real threats to score more consistently, then the Flyers will be in good shape for a Cup run. It may take a season or two to find out, tho. I'd rather Holmgren look for another strong defenseman or a sniper to help out Giroux.

I was by no means saying it should be looloo just baffled by the fact we brought back leighton and boucher

I know you weren't advocating for Luongo and I'm just as baffled by the Leighton and Boucher signings.

Washington needs to get Ovie doing more shooting drills ! Watching him hit the post on an un- defended goal was bizarre ??

Given the Flyers recent history of goalie signings, bringing in Luongo makes perfect sense.

I am in no position of criticizing the Flyers or any team on any level. Pens are hanging on by a thread!

If anyone here can appreciate a good ole fashioned Goalie fight - check you tube for Edmonton Oil Kings highlights from this weekend....have not seen that for a while > They look like rock em sock em robots ;-)

You gotta admit, besides that Cup, he ain't done a heck of a lot during his time there. Two 1st round exits and one 2nd round exit.

There just isn't a lot of good defensive help out there. And if there is, you're giving up the good talent you say there is on the farm, and believe me when I say they will be paying a steep premium (look what they had to give for Schenn).

JVR sure is a shining light early in the season for you
