02:25 PM ET 01.28 | Virginia Tech's best cornerback, Antone Exum, will likely miss time in the 2013 football season after tearing his ACL.

Exum, who was second-team all-ACC in 2012 as a junior, was playing a pick-up basketball game when he tore the ligament, as well as his lateral meniscus. He underwent surgery Sunday that will keep him from playing football for six to nine months.

The cornerback won MVP honors in the team's Russell Athletic Bowl win and led the Hokies with five interceptions. The timeline means he could be ready for football season, but also could end up missing up to half of the year.
