Another black eye for the NHL

08:12 AM ET 01.29 | When the Avs rolled into Edmonton, they did so without their 19-year-old star Gabriel Landeskog. Landeskog was hurt on Saturday afternoon when he was drilled by Brad Stuart of [San Jose] in a controversial incident. ... The question will remain, if he has a head injury on Monday, how did he get such clearance during the game on Saturday? ... Who knows what sort of bump Landeskog might have taken in the second or third period of that game to exacerbate his issues. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to watch the video up top and recognize that he was considerably the worse for wear after the Stuart hit; that he was allowed back in that game and is now sidelined is yet another black eye for the NHL.

the tone of this suggests (especially that last bit) that aside from the 5th grade writing, that the "writer" here is just trying to engage in a bit of hyperbole. This isn't the NFL here. And while concussions are a serious issue, this is just a bad way to bring it up.

I'm not getting baited into this. It's far too early into a season for which we waited far too long for me to start giving a damn about concussions and injuries and fighting and chewing gum.

ChThe chewing gum issue is a definite concern.

I'm guessing that the writer has never played contact sports in his or her life. Happens all the time, you take a knock, you think you're fine, then the next day, not so much. He got checked by doctors and he appeared ok. Tese are things that happen in contact sports, thats it, that's all. Plus, if this writer had done any actual research into the issue, like looking at the injury report, he or she would note that Landeskog is not out with a concussion, but with soreness, in all likeliness when he woke up the next morning his neck was extremely stiff.

Journalism at its finest.

That this writer wrote this story before an injury to Landeskog is even confirmed is the real black eye (on journalism or what passses for journallism these days) here!

because, you know, why check the actual injury reports, or talk with the team's medical guys before lambasting them for sending a player back out after he cleared protocol and was deemed fit to play? This is the first time ever in the NHL that a player has seen a spike in pain or soreness the day after taking a hit.

I'd expect this from some homer journalist in Denver, but from a rag outta Edmonton? The editor should gives his head a shake.

I saw yesterday where someone compared this to the Torres hit? I've watched this one about 10 times and can't see even a remote comparison. Then you've got someone going after Stuart for a good hit...that **** should be a game misconduct. "You knocked my buddy down ?? well I'm going to have to start a fight with you then"...what the hell.

The guy looked like Lindros out there...and got smoked for it......KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!!!

generally I'm not a fan of a player going after another in the middle of play for a big hit, but this hit was on the limit and I can't fault O'byrne for doing it. Plus, its not as if O'byrne is a goon either, he's just a big, strong guy. Plus Plus, the Avs got tons of penalties for it.

Kids. I think Red Man & Mail Pouch were (are) the best chews. Of course, cleaning the ice after spitting it for the whole period adds a whole new duty for the Zamboni driver(s). Maybe fog up the glass too.
