11:36 AM ET 01.29 | Buffalo Sabres rookie forward Mikhail Grigorenko will remain with the club for the rest of the 2013 season. With Grigorenko still possessing junior eligibility, the Sabres could have returned the 18-year-old back to his junior club. This would have preserved the first year of his entry-level contract. However, Grigorenko's performance in the first five games of the season has appeared to force the team's hand in keeping him in the NHL. When he takes the ice for his next NHL game, the first year of his contract will officially begin and his salary cap-hit will count against the team's payroll. The team will be in action on Tuesday night when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.

good for him. I didn't like the way he got shafted in the draft, and I really hope he goes on to have a productive career so he can rub it in the noses of pretty much every talent evaluator out there.

Isnt this the kid with the attitude problem ?? Thats why he slipped so low...Russian born kid with an attitude problem..no wonder why so many teams passed.

The issue was that he underperformed in the QMJHL playoffs. After the fact it came out that he had mono.He then wasn't able to play during the pre-draft combine & practices, so the last look at him that scouts had was playing really average hockey. Had it been a canadian kid we would have praised him for trying to play through illness, but because it's a russian he got thrown under the bus.
I understand him dropping out of the 2-5 spots, but not dropping to the point that he did...he's a legit talent and he's a big body center. I think the Sabres got a steal.

there weren't alot of blue chips in the draft, and it'll take a while to tell, but I think there will be alot of mid-first round gems. The 4-10 picks were mostly conservative by drafting defensemen with perhaps more certain vlaue, but with less potential upside.

Centres and puck moving D-men are at such a premium now. He will get every opportunity to succeed. Three years from now he could be looked upon as the biggest steal of the draft.

Think that's bad? Wait til they start putting up players' Instagram pics of their lunches and debating whether this pulled chicken sandwich will lead to a productive late afternoon practice.

hopefully the leafs aren't so lucky. finishing 10th would be about right. Good enough to not earn a top pick, bad enough to miss the playoffs.

Any non-qualifier can get a top pick now. Knowing the Leafs' luck, they'll finish 15, and drop 5 spots in the lottery.
