03:39 PM ET 01.29 | According to a person with knowledge of the Jets plans, there is no interest in JaMarcus Russell. We wrote down below that recently, members of the organization engaged in very informal discussions regarding the QB. Through a series of introductory interviews, general manager John Idzik has made one thing clear: The roster will be built on competition. Players will be challenged for their spots. This includes the starting quarterback position and Mark Sanchez, who is scheduled to make a guaranteed $8.25 million after a troubling 2012 during which he was benched twice.

I remember a QB taken overall #1 in the draft several years ago who didn't pan out for his first team, but still did OK later in his career: Jim Plunkett. You just never know.

Wow, comparing Plunkett to this mental midget is way off base.

He grew up in this neck of the woods, and I've seen him in a lot of interviews. I never thought of him as a mental midget: just overwhelmed by his surroundings.

After how things ended up with him in Oakland, I doubt any GM would be willing to risk the $$$$ or potential damage to their reputation.

a lot of talent gone to waste...who knows someone may take a shot at him being a backup....
