New Duke coach David Cutcliffe's reputation as a mentor of quarterbacks paid off this week with the commitment of Sean Renfree of Scottsdale, Ariz. Renfree, 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, passed for almost 3,400 yards with 41 touchdowns and six interceptions as a senior while leading Notre Dame Prep to a state 4A-II title. Scout.com rates him as the 10th-best quarterback prospect in the nation. He visited Tennessee for camp last summer when Cutcliffe, who coached Peyton and Eli Manning in college, was offensive coordinator there.

Great grab for DUke, I just hope the guy has a O line that can keep him off the ground & not injured.

And Renfree's career was pronounced dead at approx 9:12 am

Has he figured out yet which of his linemen will be pulling his jersey back over his shoulder pads? Will it be the same one who picks the clumps of sod out of his facemask?

i dont see how duke can get in all the good basketball recruits but not football.what kind of grades and SAT scores do those basketball players have coming in??

January 30, 2008  10:44 AM ET

when did Duke get a football team?
This is news to me...

January 30, 2008  10:47 AM ET

i hear the academic standards are higher at duke for the football players to get in ,if thats true its got to be the same for the hoops guys as well right??if true how are they loaded with mcdonalds all americans??

Two words:

Sociology Major

When you get a chance, check out how many of Duke' Basketball players are Soc majors...

January 30, 2008  11:09 AM ET

but dont they need to have over a 1000 on sat and like a 3.0 or higher??no way those guys have that comin in u think??

January 30, 2008  11:15 AM ET

It's all very suspiscious to me

January 30, 2008  11:17 AM ET

if there letting the hoops guys slide in with less they need to do that for the football players as well

January 30, 2008  12:07 PM ET

He'll be a good one for Duke. Unfortunately, because they are still Duke this kid will never know winning.

January 30, 2008  12:18 PM ET

Excellent choice of schools. If only he could take classes at Duke and play for another school's football team, he'd have it made.

January 30, 2008  01:17 PM ET

so what outstanding QBs has Cutcliffe produced? any decent receivers or offensive lineman to go with that deal?

January 30, 2008  04:35 PM ET

It's going to take a little more than a good QB for Duke to turn the program around.

January 30, 2008  06:26 PM ET

Hey Browardcane,

If you can't get 1000 on your SATs or a 3.0 in high school you're retarded. I did that in a pot-induced haze

January 30, 2008  07:58 PM ET

dude,i bet u 75% of football and basketball players on free rides in college didnt have 3.0 gpa and 1000 sat scores in high school.i was a B and C guy in high school, like a 2.7 ,but thats all i cared about .all i needed at the time to play football was a 700 sat score and 2.0 gpa

January 30, 2008  09:55 PM ET

Duke? Um, did he consider Hawaii? 6'3"? Sounds like he got it all wrong. It was supposed to be a basketball full-ride...right?

January 31, 2008  01:57 AM ET

Pot induced haze ... ? Fleck, do you play for UConn?

January 31, 2008  03:24 PM ET

This guy already knew he was a bust so he chose duke. Now he is just trying to deflect national attention off him by going to a football program that is covered AM radio

After your NFL career pays you millions you will have the satisfaction of know;

you still can't read or do math.

Where did all that money go? Perhaps your highly paid, MA from UPENN, swindled it with a banc account in the Isle of mann.

FYI for you: that is a place.
