06:20 PM ET 01.29 | Former first overall draft pick Greg Oden is looking to make a return to the NBA after multiple knee injuries, and sources told CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman that the center out of Ohio State will decide between joining the Miami Heat or the Cleveland Cavaliers. Oden will reportedly visit with Miami executive Pat Riley in the next week to discuss his future. The Heat, already with a roster with little financial wiggle room, can offer a veteran minimum to the big man who hasn't played since 2009. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are in the mix because they can offer up a bit more money and are in a familiar place to Oden. He has been taking classes at Ohio State and working out in Columbus, Ohio, as well. It's expected that the No. 1 pick from the 2007 draft will be able to join a team in time for the beginning of next season.

Nothing would please me more than for this guy to become a modern Ilgauskas and overcome the early missed seasons, settling into a 10 year career at 10 points, 7-8 boards a game. This kid didn't ask for his knees to be made of porcelain. I'd like to see him salvage his career, even if it is as a second unit guy.

Remember Z had all those feet problems and was basically washed up at 26...hopefully Oden can follow his career arc.

Sign Oden- get him in at the Cleveland Clinic- get him healthy-----

i mean- i realize everything working out is minscule- but imagine a HEALTHY Greg Oden, Kyrie in his prime, and LeBron on the same team- with Tristan Thompson Dion Waiters and Shabazz Muahammed the supporting cast?!!!!

72 wins? by bye

Thompson another double/double tonight. 18 points and 11 boards. It's becoming habit. He's found his confidence in this league and is showing why he was the 4th overall pick.

Oden would be an interesting signing if you don't over commit. Buckeye baller comes back to play. If nothing else you add him to rotation of bigs and it could get interesting.

Glad you mentioned Shabazz. My sons and I are hoping he's the guy we get. I get the Noel pick if they go that route though. The guy is a defensive monster. And we sure as hell could play better defense.

Z is the perfect example- no one thought he had any chance at being healthy for any amount of time-

much to everyone's surprise- he was healthy for a long time-

Oden was predicted to be a GREAT player. IF they could get half of his talent out of him it would be a great signing

Shabazz is my #1 guy for sure-

i am not sure about Noel- he is a great defender- but it seems to me he is a project- and has al ittle bit of that kentucky ego- i dont know if he is a Chris Grant kind of guy...

if we win a few games and are not at the very top perhaps Anthony Bennet of UNLV?

I saw your thread on the other board about Klay Thompson. What a shooter that cat is. I have him on my fantasy team and as he was lighting us up. I look at it this way. We're developing and the losses don't really hurt that bad right now. I want to win every night but when we don't it isn't that hard of a pill to swallow knowing another lottery pick is going to happen.

Bennett is tough. Another player that I wouldn't lose any sleep over drafting. It be nice to get Deshaun Thomas later. He's projected 2nd round right now I believe. Watching as many Buckeyes games as I do you just can't help but love the guy.

exactly....its - i think this is the last year though where they will be in position to get a really high pick unless it comes through one of theses picks they traded for-

i just hope they can get one more really solid piece before the plan comes into fruition .....Shabazz, Bennet...whoever they get i just hope can play and add to Kyrie's supporting cast- becasue we have the hardest part right now- the star-

Thompson, Waiters and whoever we draft this year better just develop to be good enough to be significant players on a good team-....and i mean- if Bron does come back- i think its game over for the rest of the East for awhile....the West will be tough with OKC for al ong time- but the East would be wrapped up for a long time if LBJ came back and the CAvs draft picks besides Irving really came around

LeBron really would make that much of a difference. Hell, he took us pretty far with very little supporting cast. Can you imagine him having a point guard like that? A power forward like that? Not to mention how much better he would make Zeller and Waiters. So it looks like we agree that having LeBron back isn't distasteful. I look at it this way. It's a business. He had every right to move. He delivered his "Decision" poorly as an immature phenom would and I think he regrets that. I think he has grown up and I think you would be crazy as a Cavs fan to not want the best player in the NBA on your team. Period. We'll build without him and be very good for years. Add him to the mix and we instantly become a team vying for a championship every year.

I think they would look at that move as beneath them.

Believe me 1. I want the Lakers to do whatever it takes for them to make the playoffs. As a Cavs fan, we get their #1 pick in 2013 if they make the playoffs. We can then swap it with Miami's #1. It's a bit confusing but it's part of the conditions that need to be met as a result of the trade we made with LA when we sent Sessions there. Here's a good overview of the situation:

Oden can't stay healthy. Better he go to Miami.

He has most definitely proved himself to be a fragile ball player. We need all the help we can get and if he isn't too expensive I think I would roll the dice on him. Easy for me to say though. Not my pocket book. Over and out.
