Baseball's worst farm system

08:09 AM ET 01.30 | Still relatively new on the job, Jerry Dipoto has his work cut out for him. In 2005, Baseball America awarded the Halos' Minor League talent with the No. 1 ranking in all of baseball. Now, thanks partly to that, the club's Major League roster is once again a championship contender -- but the organization's farm system is expected to finish dead last when the publication releases its 2013 list this March. Second-year general manager [Dipoto], who mostly inherited the downtrodden farm system he now strives to turn around, quickly points to the subjectivity of those rankings. But he admits the Angels' organization has "a lot of room to improve," even though he doesn't really have to.

wiseup: While the Angels are signing all these free agents. Or letting Talent Leave (tori Hunter) is great for your lineup and pitching staff. The down side you do not restock farm system that way.

Honestly, who cares? In 2005, when they were ranked #1 one of their top prospects was Brandon Wood. That didn't work out.
If the minors are thin it's because all the good prospects made the majors ahead of schedule (Trout, Trumbo, Aybar, ect.) or were traded (Kotchman, Segura, Rodriguez, Chatwood.)
The end result is what matters, they have put together a major league team with a solid core of homegrown players and free agents for the next 5-10 years.

The Angels Triple A team finish 2 games over, stats can be misleading because the Cards Triple A team finish well below 500, but their farm system rank first overall in MLB.

Thank you.
Prospects don't mean ****.
That's why rarely should GMs trade proven talent for prospects. Sometimes it can burn you, but proven talent wins games and championships, not potential.
