08:11 AM ET 01.30 | Coming off a stellar season, Gio Gonzalez found himself swept up in an unfortunate list on Tuesday. [Gonzalez's] name surfaced along with several other star players in a report linking him to a Miami anti-aging clinic suspected of supplying athletes with PEDs, is now faced with an issue looming over so many of this century's ballplayers, from Jeff Bagwell to Ryan Braun. ... Gonzalez maintains his innocence, issuing a vehement denial of any involvement on his part, and the supplements linked to him in the report do not appear to be on baseball's list of banned substances. But the cloud that steroid use has cast over sports has made its way over the affable left-hander's head.

Guilty, Bro.

January 30, 2013  08:25 AM ET

Innocent or not, you don't want to be linked to anything involving A Fraud.

Why do people still care?

No way once you are linked to PEDS anything you say will effect perception but didn't any of these guys ever hear of "Anything you say can and will be used against you"?
Best thing to do right now is to say "No comment".

Once you're associated with PEDS, it never leaves your System!

wiseup: Where there is smoke!!!!It will be interesting what kind of season those listed in the investigation have now that they will be under microscope. Sosa and Palmeiro denied using PEDsThe next season both of their stats dropped off dramatically and both were out of ML the following year.

Mondo: Yes, you are the one known as "wiseup".

Getting caught using PED's is still a big deal, IMO.

It's not surprising that players are getting caught. This is the "Steroid Era." Baseball let this happen. It just really, really sucks when it's your favorite player(s).
It'll follow them around forever; all the way to the Hall of Fame if they're good enough to be considered.

But that's baseball. A lot of fun, you just can't trust it. I grew up with this.

Saying "No comment" implies guilt. Actually coming forward to make a statement is far more honorable. At least with Gonzales it's the first time he's been linked to anything like this, unlike Colon, Cabrera, or A-Roid. Plus, the products that Gonzales is said to have purchased do not fall under MLB's list of banned substances, but that's not going to stop people from trying to drag his name through the mud simply because he's a talented pitcher and they dislike the Nationals.

"From Bagwell to Braun"? That really runs the gamut of the alphabet doesn't it?
