The NHL's top rookie

08:19 AM ET 01.30 | Among a list that includes Edmonton's Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz, Boston's Dougie Hamilton and Tampa Bay's Cory Conacher, there is St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko, who with a goal and two assists in a 4-3 shootout win over Nashville on Monday, had seven points in his first five games. ... There's really no contest here. Tarasenko has been a threatening player from the second he hit the ice. Bursting onto the scene with a two-goal performance against the Detroit Red Wings in his first NHL game, Tarasenko leads all rookies with eight points through his first six games. Of course, Tarasenko has the benefit of a good team around him and his usage has been offense-friendly, but he's still putting the puck in the net and making plays.

To Win During A Short Season Doesn't Mean Much, Bros.

Tarasenko is lucky that Kadri doesn't qualify for ROY.....just sayin'

January 30, 2013  08:39 AM ET

Well, his first two shots made it past Jimmy Howard, so that helped.

A Laker's fan Spiny. I guess winning during a regular length season doesn't matter much either.

He's got a future, that's for sure. Exciting stuff last night in a barn that hasn't been kind to the Leafs.

Justin Schultz plays, and handles himself like a top tier vet already. The Guy is gonna be scary good.

I think he suprised a few 'not ready for primetime' clubs at first, he's looking more human lately.

Agree with you there. BTW, Blowmeister did good against the Oil. That was a workman like win for the Flames. Seem like the Oilers are just about the only team the Flames can get up for these days or, am I reading it wrong?

Just think what his stats would look like if we played "The Monster" instead of Jimmy!
