Ole Miss recruit raises suspicions of recruiting violations

04:16 PM ET 01.30 | Ole Miss Rebels five-star recruit Laquon Treadwell is one of the highly touted members of Hugh Freeze's impressive 2013 recruiting class. Freeze has been able to land a handful of five-star recruits, despite not having the national contender status of many of the SEC's top teams and now people are beginning to wonder how they have had such success in their recruiting department, especially after Treadwell posted a series of photos. Treadwell posted some photos that included being surrounded by lovely women and holding $100 bills during his recruiting trip at Ole Miss. The five-star receiver immediately deleted the photos, but it was too late. Posting a picture of money does not violate any rules and it does not mean that Treadwell was involved in any recruiting violations, but it was certainly a bone-headed move and something that he should have thought about before posting it for the world to see. Hopefully for the Rebels, the coaching staff will be able to talk some sense in to Treadwell and prevent anything like this from happening again.

It really was a stupid thing to do, but there's a reason it isn't a big story: kids have done this before, including the current Heisman trophy winner. All recruits on official visits get a stipend. Most just don't choose to take pictures of it and post it on twitter.

In the offense he is going to be playing in, there's a very good chance he'll have more than 15 seconds of fame. Donte Moncrief was only a three star and he's practically unstoppable.

All true, but if Ole Miss hadn't had a meteoric rise in recruiting the last 4 weeks, this would be a non-issue. Its like the steroids in baseball, when a 15 hr hitter all of sudden blasts 50.
How is Ole Miss have the best recruiting in the entire country right now? Bad timing for the pics.

First of all, Ole Miss is not the best recruiter in the entire country. They might finish top 10, but they've been top 20 several times before in the last decade. It isn't THAT big of a leap. But consider that 1) The brother of the best recruit in the nation is already on the team and any time a big name recruit is interested in a school, it's going to get the interest of other big name recruits. 2) These guys can start as true freshmen at Ole Miss. Can Alabama or LSU promise the same? Starting early also gives these guys a leg up on the NFL. If they can prove themselves weekly against the best the nation has to offer, then their NFL career is set (Eli Manning, Patrick Willis, Michael Oher, etc.) 3) Freeze's offense is designed to be the fastest paced offense in the nation. They may very well run twice as many plays as other SEC teams over the course of a season. That translates into big time stats on offense. On defense, it means that these big name DEs won't be slugging it out in the trenches every week. There will be tons of opportunities to rush the QB and again, build big stats. 4) recent success. They won seven games with almost entirely freshmen and sophomores. The program is only getting better. 5) Historic small town, beautiful campus, great college football atmosphere. This perk certainly isn't for everybody but Ole Miss doesn't recruit those kids. Ole Miss recruits kids (and parents) who LIKE the idea of spending 4-5 years in that environment. It isn't rocket science guys. Plenty of programs have emerged over the past decade - Stanford, TCU, Texas A&M, Oregon - without cheating. Why not Ole Miss?

Stipends that EVERY recruit at EVERY school in nation gets people. Look it up. And you want to blame Ole Miss for having pretty girls hang out with recruits? I guess they invented that this season.
