Yankees might not stick to that salary ceiling

08:13 AM ET 01.31 | Are the Yankees merely old, injury-prone and strapped by a self-imposed salary cap? When presented with that scenario on Wednesday, general manager Brian Cashman said he doesn't see it happening. "We'll find a way, we always do," he said. "We'll be active in free-agent signings, trades, and we have a strong farm system, one of the best in baseball. It will be business as usual." ... When asked if Hal Steinbrenner's edict to get the payroll under $189 million for 2014 might stand in the way of business as usual, Cashman simply said, "No." The GM didn't elaborate but did seem to leave open the possibility that the $189 million ceiling, which would allow the Yankees to avoid severe luxury-tax penalties, isn't necessarily etched in stone.

I don't think so. Hal mentioned awhile back that the $189 M ceiling won't get in the way if they feel the team needs to get better.

I don't see who may be left to sign anyway this season before it starts or how good their prospects really are but I guess they can try and trade at midseason if necessary. I wouldn't mind, though, that if they really do have strong farm system to take their time with the team and wait for those prospects to come up.

Are you trying to be funny haha or funny ****.
On another note, why is this thread at such a slow place? You would think that it being about the beloved/behated Yankees that words would be spewing from all over the place with such ease.

One would think - but the best that could be mustered so far is it is the only MLB threat that got spammed. Must think we have money here also....
