Arrogance to blame for weak Rangers offseason

08:11 AM ET 01.31 | The possibility that Nelson Cruz may be suspended threatens to add another disappointing headline to an offseason full of them for Nolan Ryan and Jon Daniels. And if Nellie goes down, thus continues a winter of baseball [disappointments] in Arlington, during which a good organization has repeatedly gone sideways, or worse yet, backward. You can blame sideways and backward on bad decisions or bad mojo, with both being factors. ... However, there are also prominent players' agents out there -- and agents certainly have their own agendas -- blaming the Rangers' winter on a front-office arrogance, aimed at Daniels, and a failure of Ryan to step up and take charge of the situation, or Daniels, or both. I did mention, right, that agents have their own agendas?

What a crock - just how much money do you want the Rangers to give Greinke or Hamilton? They are better off without Hamilton who might play 120 games for the Angles under the LA spotlight then he will have some mysterious ailment and can't play. One pitcher can't win the WS for you - you need a whole team.

One out away in 11 of winning it all, and now in 13 they may struggle just to make the playoffs.

And it was a sweet - one out......

I don't see it as arrogance. I see it as not overpaying for a FA and trusting the process that got you here, along with the farm system. Cashman might have wished he was more "arrogant" when he gave Arod the deal he got just a few years ago. 4 pitchers are locked, they need one more front line starter. Josh is a diva that was looking to get out. The young guys coming could be what propels them forward. They might have an off year this year, but sometimes you take a step back to move 5 steps forward. Just because a GM doesn't cave to these agents' demands doesn't necessarily make him arrogant. It makes him smart in keeping with the template that got them where they are now.

I wouldn't have gone that high for Hamilton either. But don't kid yourself, you're not better off without him.

The Rangers WILL be a better TEAM this year! Buh-bye Diva's!

January 31, 2013  12:59 PM ET

the only arrogant one here is Galloway ... and now you're writing for the Texas Enquirer Rag Mag ... what a turn of events. Granted they lost a decent bat in Hamilton, but they also lost the headache and now have a chance to bring up some of that vaunted farm team ... let's find out ... as for Cruz ... we all knew something wasn't right ... now we know.

I understand what he means. St. Louis is not better off without Pujols. They are better off without that contract.

the rangers may look fragil as a glass cup,, in paper things always looking fake anyways,,,
my guess is,,the rangers are about to play with more intencity with rookie prospects than with top major league players!!!

January 31, 2013  05:48 PM ET

Even IF the rangers find themselves affected by the Nelson cruz albastros erroneous living life,,the rangers would use those miscus as a positive boost towards their lineup,,,

January 31, 2013  05:49 PM ET

the media/the GM"S/the teams/the fans/even the owners/ may thing rangers are out as a contender team,,,that its out of the picture in either way not matter what!!

January 31, 2013  05:50 PM ET

Rangers will prevail, and be a contenders in the 2013 season,,, just wait watch and see!!!

Cashman had nothing to do with the A-Rod contract.

Young was -2.4 WAR....Addition by subtraction. Hamilton looked like Stevie Wonder the last 4 months and Quit on the team the last 2 weeks. An arrogant hypocrite who wouldn't even watch videos of opposing pitchers. He was too good to have to do that. An old and brittle 32 who will age very fast and hears God whispering to him to swing at those pitches 2 feet outside and in the dirt 150 times a year, all of them strike 3. Good riddance, spend the money on pitching. Let's see what Olt and Profar bring to the table. Fresh legs and enthusiasm, something that MY and Hamilton couldn't supply last year.
