04:16 PM ET 01.31 | The New York Islanders have come to terms on a three-year extension with defenseman Brian Strait on Thursday afternoon. Strait is playing in the final year of a one-year contract worth $650,000 and would have been a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the season. The new deal (which kicks in at the start of next season) will pay Strait $775,000 annually. This extension comes just six games into the 25-year-old blue liner's tenure with the team, as he was picked up on waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 18. Prior to this season, he had only played in 12 NHL games.

Would love to see some numbers regarding exactly how many games Rickety has actually played vs. being out with injury since signing that contract.

It's low money, not that many years and he's a pretty good puck moving defensemen. It's a very good signing IMO but also VERY early to give out.
