04:31 PM ET 01.31 | The Pittsburgh Penguins claimed forward Zach Boychuk off waivers via the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday afternoon. Had he cleared, Boychuk would have been sent to Carolina's American Hockey League affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers. Now, he might have an opportunity to play on a line with two of the most gifted scorers in the NHL today. Upon announcing the acquisition, head coach Dan Bylsma stated that Boychuk could potentially be playing with Evgeni Malkin and James Neal on the team's second line. Not a bad transition for a player almost sent to the minor leagues. A former first-round draft selection by Carolina, Boychuk has registered seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points in 73 career NHL games.

Wasn't there some minor league team in Indianapolis called the Checkers years ago? I remember visiting cousins up there back around 1978 or so and my cousin went on and on about them. I was only 8 back then myself, so I'm not really sure.

LOL...was watching highlights a few days ago -- funny enough - the Wild has a kid playing with the last name of Stoner. What's his nickname, Cheech or Chong?

He gets a free pass with the drug test, anyone with that name wouldn't dare.
