06:23 PM ET 01.31 | When Randy Moss declared himself to be the greatest wide receiver of all time on Super Bowl Media Day, it set off debate in the football world about where he ranks among the best. The general agreement seems to be that he, or any receiver for that matter, cannot hold a candle to Jerry Rice. It seems that Rice himself may think that way as well. Rice was on 101 ESPN in St. Louis Wednesday, and he was asked about Moss' comments. The hall-of-famer didn't exactly show humility when responding, and also offered up a backhanded compliment to Moss:

He should be. Rice earned every bit of what he has. If Randy had put in that kind of effort during his career, he wouldn't have had to make a fool of himself.....again.

It was completely disrespectful to Rice and the Sport's History.

I bet Bill Callahan is still offended by Jerry's comments from last week about "sabotaging" the Super Bowl. Ridiculous comments all around, but Moss's comments hardly sully Rice's reputation.

Anyone listening to Jerry Rice would definitely conclude that he was humble and he genuinely complimented Randy Moss. He did point out very factually that he never took a play off which RM was not only guilty of taking a play off, but also a game or a season off. Moss made a fool of himself..... once again.

Just when it looked like Randy knew when to keep his mouth shut...
Media day seems to bring that out of a few players every year.

Look, I think Rice is the "best" receiver ever as well, but he also had Montana and Young throwing to him for the majority of his career. That has to be a factor. Randy's highlight reel is much more entertaining.

Moss had Tom Brady & Brett Favre throwing to him.

I have no problem with him talking... he'd kept pretty quiet all season. Like I mentioned, media day seems to bring that out of some players.

Jerry Rice could say that Mandy Ross's comment was hilarious, and worthy of Saturday Night Live. That's about all it deserves.

Randy Moss was notorious for taking plays off and Jerry Rice played the game the way it should be played. Moss is openly envious of Rice.

When comparing the two it's easy to say that Rice had better Quarterbacks. It could also be said that Rice had better Quarterbacks because they were throwing the ball to him. He made them look awfully good.
