08:10 AM ET 02.01 | After arriving in Phoenix, Walt Jocketty offered a few thoughts on where things might be going with Scott Rolen. He said he had not talked to Scott Rolen's agents in the last couple of [days]. But he confirmed that Rolen is interested in returning. "I think there's a chance we get something worked out," he said. ... If the Reds are committed to Todd Frazier as the starting third baseman, playing time would be limited for Rolen. Money is also likely a factor the Reds are looking at payroll of close to $100 million -- $13 million more than last year. Jocketty said the Reds are continuing to talk to four remaining arbitration-eligible players -- Homer Bailey, Mat Latos, Mike Leake and Shin-Soo Choo.

Scott Rolen was on a radio talk show in Cincy the other night and said he has no desire to play anywhere else but in Cincy since he lives in Indiana and is building a new home on his farm, so I guess he either plays for the Reds or Retires, but my guess they work a deal out.

Good point and good comment, but why is building a new home on his farm in Indiana, have anything to do with playing a couple of more years elsewhere??? He's 37 (38 in April) and can still retire on his farm in 2 years!!!

Doesn't everyone say something like this to the current home town fans? It rarely signals whether they will actually sign for another team. No desire does not equal will not even if it sounds similar.

Pujols wanted to stay in St. Louis and the Cardinals wanted to keep him here. I don't believe either party wanted Pujols to stay in Saint Louis.

It sounds as though all Reds personnel decisions are on hold until Rolen can decide what he's doing. I don't get it.

LOL, yeah, the Reds are waiting for a soon to be 38 year old player to make up his mind, before they go any further!!! You're right, it doesn't make any sense!!!!

I don't know......but maybe he just feels like he would rather be closer to home and family then to be away for about 8 mths of the year......

He would be a good back-up player for 3rd base and mentor to Todd Frazier who is going to be the starting 3rd baseman. But it showed last year his hitting has really dropped off and his range in the field is not what it use to be.

He will be gone the same amout of time per year, regardless of where he plays.

They don't have many personnel decisions to make......mainly sign Lato's,Homer Bailey,a nd Choo, Mike Leak could become expendable if Chapman moves into the starting rotation.

They are well stocked with young talent and if Billy Hamilton can convert to CF and hit Major league pitching then there lead-off problems are a non issue.

walt we all know your affinity for washed up ex-cardinals but for the love of God let him go! Todd Frazier is the 3rd baseman now and you acquired hanaran to back him up so where is rolen going to play? he can't play any other position and he proved last year he has nothing left in the tank when he was not on dl. you had Frazier the guy who pretty much saved the reds season benched when he came back from his last injury before the playoffs and look how that worked out for the reds. Frazier does not need to be looking over he shoulder after every ofer to see if he is benched the next day, he has earned the right to play everyday. and do not kid yourself you will have dusty have him on the field as the starter at the first hint of a slump from Frazier. if you really want the reds to win this year you kill this idea and the stupid one of making chapman a starter. if not will be looking at a repeat of the 2011 season all over again.
