Trout privately irked by outfield shift

08:11 AM ET 02.01 | Beyond not having Torii Hunter around, Mike Trout will have some extra adjusting to do in 2013. Mike isn't too thrilled about being relegated to left field next season, several people close to him say. No surprise. (How would you feel if you were told to switch positions after being the MVP runner-up?) But Mike has made no mention of his displeasure to Angels management, simply telling them he believes he's a center fielder but will do what it takes to help the team win. The Angels remain committed to putting Peter Bourjos in center and Trout in left for a vast majority of the 2013 season -- unless Bourjos struggles offensively again. They like the alignment because Bourjos is also an elite-level defensive center fielder.

I would be too if I was in Trout's position.

I haven't seen Trout enough to be a judge of his defense. But I though he was supposed to be pretty good in CF.

He is. Sulla is probably right about wanting to save wear and tear on Trout because he's fearless out there. It probably terrifies management to see him so willing to crash into the wall.

He made some outstanding, high lite reel catches last season.

Trout is good in CF. Bourjos is amazing in CF. Only problem is he can't hit worth a damn.
Chances are Bourjos will be around the Mendoza line in early May, be sent back to AAA or waived, and Trout will be in center again.

this reminds me of the Red Sox moving Elllsbury to Left when they signed Mike Cameron (also a supposed "elite" defensive center fielder). We all know how that turned out. Watch out for the third baseman Trout!

likely Pete bourjos hit under 200 avg, next step for bourjos sdended back to the minors, then recalled at the mid-season, then traded to the rays for a minor league pitcher,,the realistic thing here is,,either bourjos hit as a major league player or face concecuenses from the top big shots,, his staying in angels roster could depend on how well he become a contact hitter,,,

mike has the ability to be young and fearless, and nothing intimidate him at all, he should be able to get at least a gold glove in his first complete season as a halo,,,

and if bourjos is unable to produse as a hitter,, sciocia would send him down to the minors without any hesitation,,,this will wide open the door for mike trout to become a solo possesion in the CF!!

Bourjos hesitate too long to make the right pitch selection,,should he continues use the same approach?? his time in the majors or in halos uniform could be in danger!!!

Trout is an elite CF and the poster who said they're trying prevent wear and tear is most likely right. However, Bourjos is still an excellent CF. Defensively at least. If Bourjos' bat keeps him in the lineup, I think it makes sense to keep him in center and Trout in left. But you also don't wanna hinder Trout's development as he is most likely their CF of the future. So yea, I guess I just defeated my own argument.

Bourjos would have to disciplined himself at the plate, need to work the walks, need to be agressive but also he has to be patient at the plate, can't throw away this opportunity from the halos towards him,,,should Pete burjos remain cold at the plate?? should bourjos hit under the mendoza line??his time in anaheim could be numbered!!!

I think so. Nats are moving Harper to left too. He fields CF well but the thinking is to put him a corner and protect him.

Now that I think about it, Joe DiMaggio and Willie Mays should have been moved to left field too.
