07:59 AM ET 02.01 | If Osi Umenyiora winds up leaving the Giants next season, it won't be entirely about the money. It'll be because he wants the one thing the Giants may not be able to give him. A starting job. That's what Umenyiora said he'll be looking for when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 12. He wants a chance to prove what he believes so many people doubt -- that he can still be a starter and a Pro Bowler in the NFL. "Well, I feel like I'm a Pro Bowl player and I feel like I'm a starter in this league, (but) obviously that might be difficult to do in New York," Umenyiora said on Thursday during an appearance on the Super Bowl Radio Row. "But the door's still open there."

Being a Pro Bowl player is sure a real badge of honor.

The rhetoric from Osi is a lot more mellow and toned down than what it used to be about this time of year. But if he wants to be a starter, let alone a pro-bowl player, he really ought to focus on getting better at stopping the run.l

Maybe no one will be a pro bowler next year.

We can but hope. I would expect this decision is somewhat tied to existing contracts. I think many players have Pro Bowl linked incentives in their contracts. If the Pro Bowl goes away, what happens then? Interesting situation.

That was always the problem between him and the Giants management, they were never happy about his run defense. This goes back years. He will play a few more years, but not with the Giants.

Here is the catch Osi: The Giants are up against the cap now, Cutting Webster and Diel and Boley and possibly Canty and redong some contracts just gives them enough money to play their usual small, but often useful, FA signings. They are not going to give that money to you.

Osi would look great in Cowboy colors...especially if Spencer goes through free agency.
With the Boys going to the 4-3, Osi opposite to Ware would never see a double team...he could easily notch 10-13 sacks.

That might make too much sense for Jerry to pull off.

Time for the Giants to move on and get new blood. He's way past his prime and is terrible in run support, never was that good from the start. He has a hip injury that limits his ability to move laterally, it shows in film on run plays when he has edge containment.
