UMass football will remain in FBS

04:08 PM ET 02.01 | The UMass Faculty Senate narrowly voted down a proposal to drop the Minutemen football team from NCAA FBS status. UMass competed in its first season of FBS football as a member of the MAC in 2012, and the results left quite a bit to be desired. The Minutemen finished the season 1-11, with the lone victory coming over Akron on Nov. 10, 22-14. Some members of the Faculty Senate viewed the season as evidence that the move from FCS to FBS was a failure and wanted to see UMass immediately return to its previous classification.

The Faculty Senate has no ability to remove the football program from the FBS level. MassLive and several other outlets have correctly reported that they can only make a suggestion, and that suggestion is powerless. This snippet does not explain that, and readers may misunderstand what this means.

You can't give up after one year. Hell, that is only 2 losses behind auburn which has been division 1 for over 100 years.

ummm...they played connecticut, indiana, michigan, vandy and northern illionois.

ok, not powerhouses, but still there's 4 ooc games that I would never have expected a new fbs team to win.
