10:27 PM ET 02.01 | The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added an ex-NFL head coach to their staff to replace recently fired special teams coach Bob Ligashesky. Former Dolphins head coach (and that's going back quite a ways) Dave Wannstedt was hired on Friday to become the Buccaneers new special teams coach. Wannstedt spent the past two seasons with the Buffalo Bills, most recently serving as the Bills defensive coordinator. He was fired along with Chan Gailey and the rest of his staff on New Years Eve. The fact that Wannstedt wound up in Tampa should really be surprising to no one. Both Greg Schiano and Wannstedt spent time together in Chicago, with Wannstedt serving as Schiano's boss as the head coach of the Bears. But back then Schiano was just the student, while now he is the master.

Wannstedt sure gets fired a lot

Wannstedt had success as DC for Jimmy Johnson in Dallas and as a Head Coach did have a signature win @ each stop, that totally spoiled that opponents season. He was probably let go @ Pitt before it was necessary, although his last team there did underachieve [a sad Wannstedt trademark]. He has total integrity but has never been a Special Teams coach. I wish him well.

Good luck Dave!

I always remember him as a stand up guy whose teams always seem to fall just a bit short. I hope he doesn't bring that last part to the Bucs.

Dave Wannstedt. Working his way down the coaching ladder. In two years, he'll a quality control coach. In five years, he'll be an unpaid intern.

He sounds like the kind of coach Jerry Jones would hire.

I still shudder thinking about the first round draft pick he gave up in Chicago to acquire Rick Mirer.

I didn't even know that Wannstedt was still alive.

You poor, poor Bucs fans. Here is your future head coach.
