06:26 AM ET 02.02 | Teams are calling the Boston Celtics to inquire about guard Jason Terry's availability, according to CBSSports.com's Ken Berger via Twitter. The Celtics could get under the luxury tax -- they are currently $1.5 million over the tax line -- by trading Terry, according to Berger.

QUOTE(#14):

And you nose must be up a Celtics fan's crack(you're in Cali where there's a lotta crack sniffing and packing), anyways the Knicks certainly compete the during the Ray Williams, Michael Ray Richardson days, as well as the Bernard's days, and then came the Ewing era 1986 to 2000 and the competed on a regular bases you wipe. Come outta the delusional dream you're in. Apple....SUCKER!

"crack sniffing and packing"?

What does that even mean? Was this meant to be cryptically homophobic? Or are you suggesting that crack in consumed like powder cocaine?

he's only making 5 mil a year-not a big investment

12.5% of your payroll for the next 3 years id u want to stay at the salary cap?

QUOTE(#2):

Huh ??If you're barely over the tax line, do you pay just a small penalty, or is it a large flat amount regardless of whether you're barely over or much over ?Otherwise it makes no sense to trade Terry - he just got there, and they need him now that Rondo is injured and out for the season.

for every dollar you are over the tax this year- you pay a dollar...

so if they are 1.5 million over- they pay 1.5 million in tax....

if they trade someone away, say Terry, they save his contract, plus the 1.5 in tax

NEXT year- it gets a lot more punitive.....its something like- if you are 1-5M over you pay 1.5 dollars per dollar over

5-10 its like 2

up until over 25 million over you pay 4.5 dollars of tax for every dollar over the cap- hence if the lakers have the same payroll next year they will cut a check for about 130 million to the league, lol- NOT gonna happen
