Victor Cruz hasn't ruled out a Giants holdout

06:39 AM ET 02.02 | There was a time not so long ago when Victor Cruz had a fairy tale with the Giants, when the wideout promised never to hold out against his hometown team as he battled for a lucrative contract extension. But now, all bets are off. And on Friday, the Giants' Pro Bowl wideout refused to rule out the threat of a holdout if his already contentious contract talks continue to get ugly. "I have no answer to that," Cruz told the News when asked if he would consider a holdout. Cruz's ominous non-answer opens the door for things to get even uglier in contract talks that have made little progress in recent months, and it came just hours after Giants owner John Mara made it clear that the team will not break the bank to sign its star. Mara stressed that the Giants have "a limit with any player," even a Pro Bowl wideout coming off a second straight 1,000-yard season.

I don't think hold-outs work any better with the Maras than they do with the Rooneys....

Coughlin and Reese will keep him, no doubt-- I just hope they go after some premier corners this year and not untested ones out of college--

Right! A hold out won't get him what he wants anymore than it did Wallace last year.

We got Eli, we make all receivers looks good, they catch balls as they run out of bounds and leave the team, off the helmet and 2years later their cut, tight end who leave and do nothing after they leave, Hello, It's the System!!!!!!!!!!!

26 years old and from what he's shown, they better give up some money to keep him.

RFA is NOT UFA. He will get a reasonable deal or they will take their chances, tender offer him and take a first round pick in return. As good as he is at times, he too disappears a lot. Not the Giants way to break the bank on a player not named the QB.

No NFL player can hold out. The new CBA determines that to be a year lost without any credit. He would still be a restricted free agent. Any player who says he might hold out is full of BS.

Victor Cruz, come on over to the Saints and catch balls thrown to you by Drew Brees. WOW!
Next Subject: Goodell has welcomed President Barack Obama's recent comments expressing concern about football's violence because "we want to make sure that people understand what we're doing to make our game safer." Obama, wake up and get going on all the false promises. Worry about the economy and JOBS and let football take care of itself.
Goodell wants safer tackling. Hey, here is an idea. When a defensive player gets with 3 yards of an offensive player both the tackler and the man with the ball must slow down.
If Goody would look he would see that most of the helmet to helmet tackles comes because the offensive player goes downward and leads with his head to smack the defensive player.
The idea of a neurological test for each and every player at year end is a good idea. If problem found, then they are tested again prior to being allowed to play.
Saints don't get their 2nd round draft choice back for this year's draft. Believe that stinks because it has been proven Goodell had no case about bounty program within the Saints.
Watch for the Saint's fans signs prior to the Super Bowl. Should be interesting.

You signed the **** contract, live with it. Have a good year, then ask for a renegotiation.
I hate these ass clowns that sign a contract, then don't want to honor it.

Normally I would agree, but in the NFL they can release you without honoring your contract. With their short careers and long-term health risks, I don't blame these guys for going for the money when they have the leverage.

I have a problem with people wanting a new deal after 1 good year but if the guys strung together 2-3 great years at a value price, why not reward them? On the flip side, they're basically saying "pay for performance" meaning if I do good, I get more money. If they give them a lot of money and they stink up the joint (AKA JarMarcus Russell or Fat Albert Haynesworth) shouldn't they have to give back a lot of cash?

Giants' ownership holds all the cards with Cruz for the remainder of his rookie contract. Then Cruz (who will then sign with another team, or be franchised at $9.5 Million per year) will be a very wealthy man. Mara can say anything he wants. Cruz has a high ceiling, and will sign for lots of money, even for an amount that will "break the bank" money. Mara, when Cruz' contract expires you will be going to new heights to sign him. And 1=ALL is correct, Dan Snyder will gladly sign him (for megabucks) if you don't. That's the reality.

If they "stink up the joint" such as what Russell or Haynesworth did, then they are cut. NFL contacts are NOT guaranteed. Clearly the Giants are NOT paying for the performance they're getting from Cruz right now.
