So, what's in Portland? Do lumberjacks care about hockey?

if we have to accept the idea of 2 expansion teams, I maintain that the ideal involves phx to qc, but if there could be more then 1 move, then all bets are off. There's alot of destinations that could be potentially good hockey markets; portland, seattle, qc, markham, hamilton (although I disagree with this one), indianapolis, milwauke, cincinnati... kansas city and oklahoma trailing somewhere behind...

Your commentshould have read 'accept the idea of 2 expansion teams and 1 move, then the ideal would be phx to qc followed by 2 expansions; seattle + markham'

We've lost all interest in what happens to the Coyotes about a decade ago. Give it up! Now .... how about them Wings? And, how about Big Z? I guess all the doomsday prophets were a little premature? Lidstrom or not, they still have a formidable lineup, an aging one but ... still formidable.

Anywhere north is better than Phoenix. No hockey tradition there.

There was no hockey tradition in most of the US until the NHL arrived. It doesn't have to do with hockey tradition, it has to do with being a bad sports town.

I like Seattle. A natural for a great rivalry with the Vancouver Canucks but, will the Starbucks spoiled softy pinkos be able to handle the "brutality" of a blood sport like the NHL? Big question mark there. I'd put QC in second and Markham in third. KC could work. Anything after that is a crap-shoot. Indy is about fast cars and rednecks and Cincinnati is another Columbus. As for Oklahoma, it would be another Phoenix scenario. Don't bother.

Phoenix's favorite sport is watching the INS agents and Sheriff Joe Arpaio chasing drug runners, coyoteros and illegals in the desert. Hockey is boring by comparison.

Actually, hockey has a long tradition in Phoenix. From 1967 when the old Western Hockey League Roadrunners would sell out every night to the World Hockey Association days (sellouts early in their tenure there) Phoenix would support teams that were well managed and exciting. Additionally, the building they played in was centrally located, unlike the abomination in Glendale. The strength of the hockey fan base is in the Scottsdale and East Valley areas, not Glendale or West Phoenix. The decision to build the arena where it's located doomed the franchise.
