03:58 PM ET 02.02 | San Francisco 49ers' second-year cornerback Chris Culliver has gone from a man that spouted out controversial remarks about homosexuals in the NFL to a man that will give his free time to help gay and lesbian youth. Culliver apologized for his irresponsible comments and has decided to help out with the community he offended. Culliver will be working with The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project and Culliver will come together after Super Bowl XLVII to learn more about suicide prevention among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth communities. It's great to see Culliver stepping up and taking responsibility for his actions. Hopefully the education he receives will open his mind and allow him to avoid any inappropriate comments moving forward.

Probably not, but this whole thing isn't really on him so much as it is the media. NFL players stances on social issues should not matter in the least. The NFL is a cross section of people just like anywhere else in the world, I'm sure there are players that are racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, etc. etc. Getting this kid to come out and fake apologize isn't going to change his beliefs. Really what it comes down to is the media should not ask players questions like this, you know they are just fishing to find some kid who will slip up and say how he really feels, instead of the canned "PC" response.

Soo, if we can take this one step further, if he had stated that he's against gun laws, would he have had to picket the NRA to be 'accepted' once again?

STUPID. Leave the guy alone he has a right to his views and his fake Public Relations apology doesn't mean anything. Why isn't he aloud to have his opinion?

Chris Culliver is going to talk LGBT teens out of suicide?
Imagining him talking to those kids makes me think of a Mudvayne song...
Let me help you tie the rope around your neck,
Let me help to talk you the wrong way off the ledge,
Let me help you hold the glock against your head,
Let me help to chain the weights onto your legs

The same reason you wouldn't be allowed to make discriminatory/offensive comments to the media on your employer's behalf.

Didn't see that he was commenting on his "employer's behalf". It was his personal opinion.

Semantics.
He made the comments during a sports radio interview on Media Day (a company-related event), while acknowledged as a San Francisco 49er (representing himself as an employee). His comments couldn't have been any more tied to his team or the league.
I'll guarantee you that there's not a nationally recognized company in America that wouldn't hold an employee accountable for those comments.

A little education about other people can't hurt, he's taking a step in the right direction and will benefit as a person for it! Good for him!!

What a nice politically correct world we live in..I wonder how much of his apparant turnaround was pressure from the team..aka..tow the line. Granted he is an idiot for openning his mouth on tv what he thinks of gay folks but he has a right to be an idiot. I hate this PC world we live in now.

Even though what he said was hurtful to many people he still has the "right" to say whatever he wants. He also bears the responsibility of whatever he has said. No story here.

Would it be a non story if he said mexicans have no place in his locker room?
He gave up his "right" to say what ever comes across his tiny little brain the moment he signed that contract.
