09:38 AM ET 02.03 | The most dangerous return man in NFL history has no immediate plans to hang up his cleats, but Devin Hester says he might need a change of scenery. Hester ended a frustrating 2012 season by telling reporters immediately after coach Bears coach Lovie Smith was fired that he would consider retirement. After a month of reflection with his wife and family, the 30-year-old receiver/return specialist has had a change of heart. "I'm going to try to get two or three more years in,'' Hester told the Tribune on Saturday. "I think I have that much left in me. "At the same time, I think I do need a fresh start.'' Entering his eighth season, Hester has one year left on his contract with a base salary of $1.85 million that would count $2.94 million against the salary cap. Although a part of him wants to remain with the Bears, he understands the reality of his diminishing role on offense.

Super Bowl Sunday and the interns post a lame story about a one trick (I'll admit it's a pretty damn good trick) pony like Hester??? Maybe this site is running on auto-pilot.

As a Bears and Hester fan, I still can't see a huge market for Devin. His best years are behind him and he has yet to look like a serviceable WR in the NFL.

Well Dev, the problem is another team has to want you and trade something for you and want you around for three more years as you want in your next contract? Not likely.

Thanks for the memories, now get out of Chicago. Return men don't last long and his time is over.

To be fair, his still very good on returns. I can remember a handful of punters/kickers who seemed totally rattled kicking to Devin.

Lovie and the Bears tried converting Hester into a wide-out long before the league changed the kickoff rules. I always looked at The Devin Hester Experiment as Jerry Angelo and the Bears front office being too "frugal" to bring in a top-tier WR. In 2008, they incentivized a contract extension with escalators that were WR-based; it limited his return work substantially. Eventually he lost his return duties to Danieal Manning. It was 2010 before he got his return duties back. I never thought he was cut out to be a WR to begin with; he was special teams beast for a few seasons, and they should have just let him do what he did best.

Not a lot of market for return men over 30. He was the best ever for a long time, but if he loses just half a step, he's not the threat he used to be. And he will never be a reliable receiver.
