11:02 AM ET 02.03 | The Celtics took the next step with their interest in free agent center Greg Oden, bringing the 7-footer in for a meeting yesterday. The Celts are among a number of clubs looking into the 25-year-old who has been limited by knee injuries to just 82 games in his NBA career. Oden, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft, sat out his first year and last played in December 2009. According to president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, the Celtics and Oden met to discuss both his health and where he may be able to fit in on the roster.

With Sullinger down, Celts have an opening for an OSU alum who can't stay healthy.

Celts' season is over without Rondo. Sign this guy if you want, but rebuilding is underway.

I don't really care who signs Oden..........I would just like to see him have a few healthy years....

How poetic would it be to see this guy sign and then shine with the Celtics? Many said he'd be a Bill Russell type player... Color me curious.
I always said this guy wasn't ready for prime time when he came out of college. Perhaps time and reflection has had a positive effect on him. The ultimate hope would be for he and Melo to be the one - two punch at the 5 position that would move Kevin back to power forward, but at this point, that's just wishful thinking.

Unfortunately "Healthy Oden" is a true example of 'oxymoron'...

As long as the Celtics keep the referees they had for the Clippers game, they don't need Oden....

Well it is fitting after all. Back in the 2006-07 season the Celtics did tank the season just to draft Oden. Boston fans showed up to a lottery party with Oden Celtic jerseys. When the Celtics found out that they "won" the 5th pick in the draft. Rivers and Ainge looked like they were just shot. And Celtic fans looked like the ball just went through Buckner's legs again.
Good luck.

I always thought the Celts preferred Durant.

Oden's destined to be unhealthy. Sign him if you want, but don't expect a Kareem-like career out of this guy.

Well it worked out for the Spurs didn't it? I do remember how Celtic fans were thinking that with two picks, one of them was going to be the first pick. Some people were wondering if the lottery was going to be fixed and the Celtic's would get the first two picks in the draft. That would have been a dream come true for Celtic fans.
But I'm sure Celtic fans were happy that the team drafted Chauncey Billups and Ron Mercer.
