Robert Kraft: Tom Brady will be Patriot 'as long as he's productive'

11:38 AM ET 02.03 | Two years ago, Robert Kraft lamented the "lazy interception" Tom Brady threw early in a playoff loss to the Jets. That description did not go over well with The Brady Camp. Friday at the Super Bowl, the Patriots owner seemed to speak hesitantly when asked if he were concerned about the advanced age of the 35-year-old Brady. "I think he had a remarkable year this year and I think we look at each year as it happens," Kraft said. "I'd love him to be here as long as he's productive and feels he wants to play." Brady, who turns 36 in August, is signed through 2014. He'll make $15 million in salary and bonuses the next two years and his cap hit is $21,800,000 each year. So unless there's another deal struck, Brady will be a 38-year-old free agent after the 2014 season.

Not forever, just as long as he is "productive". That's cold. I know it happens. Manning's a Bronco, Montana finished as a Chief, Johnny U as a Charger, Namath a Ram. But I would have liked Kraft say that Brady will never wear another jersey. There was no such thing as a "The Patriot Way" until Brady started taking snaps in Foxboro.

$21,800,000 in 2013 and 2014: Now you know why he made that contract "sacrifice" redo a few years ago..

The Patriots are an extremely young team. This wasn't their last chance to win.

Would you rather the Pats do the nostalgic thing the Celtics did years ago with Parrish and McHale? I remember those moves setting them back 20 years in their rebuilding efforts.

i beg to differ,.......brady is inching up there [age-wise],....but he needs help on both sides of the ball.

Brady is no doubt getting up there in years, but most of the team is very young.
They did well this year all things considered.

Just accounting playing around. It is his cap hit because he received that money already as bonus/signing and is spread out over the length of the contract.
He received the money difference already and it is only now that it is counted against the cap. But the money is real. It is just the can that got kicked down the road is now at your feet.

True, and I really thought they were the team to beat. Period. Brady does not look or play old, he has some years in him if he wants them in the NFL.

Looks like, Old man Kart wants to give Brady The Montana Treatment, so Tommy Boy is out there competing against his old self, now that's a Challenge!!! Good Luck Tom!

It would be nice if they could roll into the post season relatively healthy one of these years too.
Brady is probably going to try to play at least 3 more years. He said some time back that he would like to play til he's 40 and given that foot speed isn't a factor in his game, he just might do it.
Now, not that I want want to kick Brady down the road, but I am anxious to see what this Mallett kid can do. If he can play as well as he did in college New England could be set up pretty nicely when Tom (or BB) does decide it's time to step aside.

The dude can ball, no doubt. He'll be around until he's 40. They can choke away at least one more Super Bowl during his tenure (unless they don't play the Giants).

The Raven's had their number this year. If they become SB champions, they are going to be hard to beat next year, even without Ray Lewis (who is definitely not the same force on the field he was in the past). The 9'ers probably would have beaten them if they had made the Super Bowl. And it has become clear they can't beat the Giants. And then there are the Seahawks. All of the sudden, the Pats don't seem to match up well with a number of teams. They have young players, but I think the window for Tom leading them to #4 is closing. That's what Kraft is admitting with his lukewarm endorsement.
