08:13 AM ET 02.04 | Scott Atchison and LaTroy Hawkins have already been added in Queens, though to minor league contracts. The Mets, openly worried about closer Frank Francisco, are close to landing another late-inning option in free agent Brandon Lyon, an industry source confirmed [Sunday]. The agreement with Lyon should be completed and announced this coming week. Lyon, 33, split the 2012 season with the Astros and Blue Jays, and pitched quite well in both locales, totaling a 3.10 ERA in 67 appearances and striking out 63 and walking 20 over 61 innings. He picked up just one save; he has spent his 12-year career bouncing back and forth between closer (he recorded 20 saves for the 2010 Astros and 26 for the 2008 Diamondbacks) and setup man.

Ninth inning man arm is safe in New York, middle relief man in New York is in for a long season.

Wiseup: The Mets could field a 4 man rotation in the ninth inning. Too bad they can't t field more than a mediocre(at best) 5 man rotation.

The Mets are not going to be good for a couple of years. It could be a rough year in Mets-land.

wiseup: Thank god the Marlins are in the same division. The Mets at least has a better than average chance that the Marlins will finish in basement again this year. look for Marlins to lose 100 games this year.

wiseup:wiseup: If Loria doesn't make a serious effort to build a somewhat competitive team for 2014, the taxpayers are liable to tar and feather him and ride him out of town on a rail. Loria might have touse a crowbar to pry out his wallet. Then open itand pry out some cash to either sign some free agents ,which might be the main option. Stantons contract is up after 2013 if I'm not mistaken,Loria could trade Stanton and or Nolasco and restock club with young close to ML ready prospects.
