03:39 PM ET 02.04 | Detroit Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith is expected to miss 3-4 weeks due to an AC sprain in his right shoulder. The injury was sustained during the team's 4-2 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night. This development is another setback for an already injury depleted Detroit defense corps. Entering the season without the services of retired captain Nicklas Lidstrom, the club failed to acquire an impact defender on the unrestricted free agent market. Now, these injuries are exasperating an area that was already considered a weakness for the Red Wings.
