Will Jed Lowrie become a star for the Oakland A's?

07:39 PM ET 02.04 | Another relevant trade has gone down in Major League Baseball. While it's not as seismic as the Justin Upton trade from a week ago, a big name is on the move to the Bay Area, as shortstop Jed Lowrie has been traded from the Houston Astros to the Oakland Athletics in a massive five-player trade between the two teams. Oakland will be sending first baseman Chris Carter, starting pitcher Brad Peacock and catching prospect Max Stassi to Houston in exchange for Lowrie and relief pitcher Fernando Rodriguez. Lowrie played mildly productive ball with the Red Sox before being played out and moved to the Astros. Lowrie will now be with his third team in five years; he spent last season with the Astros after spending 2008 until 2011 in Boston.

Hmm. Just guessing, but Lowrie will probably not be the regular SS in Oakland. The new Japanese guy will get first shot. I figure Lowrie to play some 2B, perhaps a lot of 3B, and maybe move around as a super utility sort.

he's a decent utility man, but it speaks volumes that boston traded him away with their ineptitude at 3rd and short (though the rookie looks decent at third so far).

I would think the T&R of the day would be scientists in England confirming that the skeleton found beneath a parking lot is that of King Richard III. More importantly, the skeleton was just signed by the Red Sox.

i would think the A's give too much quality players for one lowrie,,,in astros!!!

things are tough as it is for the astros,,but the A's didn't make matters better for their own team , should lowrie hit free agency next year?? while parker could be tearing apart the league in astros uniform.....
