Miami GM: Dolphins violated principle to draft Tannehill

08:03 AM ET 02.05 | Much was made of the fact Ryan Tannehill hadn't made many college starts before entering the draft, and it may have lowered his ranking on many draft boards. The Dolphins did take Tannehill at No. 8, and the kid played pretty well as a rookie, starting all 16 games and leading the Dolphins to a fairly surprising, though unspectacular, 7-9 record. ... Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland appeared on the team-owned radio show Monday on 940-AM and said the team gambled by investing in Tannehill. "I think the axiom that you go by in scouting is you like to see a quarterback with 30 starts under his belt before he???s ready to play, and we kind of violated that, our principle," Ireland said. In essence, 2012 was a catch-up season for Tannehill.

They were 27th in points scored. 7-9, second place in the AFC.

Still, he didn't do badly for a rookie on a weak team. But yeah, they passed on Russell Wilson.

Just what is Jeff Ireland supposed to say? I messed this one up like a lot of the other ones? He can dream if he wants to, he has no choice. It may work out alright.

EVERY team passed on Russell Wilson, including the Seahawks, since he was drafted in the third round.

No team, including Seattle, knew he would be as good as he was.

Imagine if the Dolphins had actually had a couple of legit NFL receivers rather than the likes of Hartline and the other CFL types they have.

They're more concerned with their logo.

Don't dis CFL receivers, they have to try to catch balls from CFL QB's.
