08:10 AM ET 02.05 | Houston may have a problem -- significantly so as it moves to the AL. [You say], "Holy smokes, how are they going to survive in the American League?" Easy answer: They won't, at least not in 2013. And as the Astros continue their teardown, it's certainly fair to ask how low can they go, how many games can they lose before they become an embarrassment to Major League Baseball. They lost 107 games last season and 106 the season before that, and now they're moving from one of the game's weaker divisions, the NL Central, to arguably its best, the AL West. As recently pointed out by ESPN???s Buster Olney, the last team to lose 106 games in three or more consecutive seasons was an expansion club, the 1962 to '65 New York Mets.

If your favorite team is in the NL you will miss beating up on the Astros and improving your record, but want miss seeing Cal's Hill in Houston.

Where's Marv Throneberry when you really need him?

February 5, 2013  11:11 AM ET

Bring Nolan Ryan out of retirement. He still has a pulse and would be better than the current set of pitchers.

February 5, 2013  11:39 AM ET

plus the astros had traded lowrie as their top player to the A's,, for a bunch of good players,,,,

February 5, 2013  11:40 AM ET

with all their weakness in their lineup/rotation,,the astros could lose 125 games in the 2013 season,,,no kidding,,,

February 5, 2013  12:17 PM ET

astros and the mets/pirates/cubs/ would be fighting for the last place in the general table,,,

The good news...not too many people will know (or care) how bad they are. They have a new TV contract switching from Fox Sports Southwest to CSN that only reaches 40% of the households in Houston (4th largest city in America) and zero households outside Houston. They just changed radio stations going from 50,000 watt KTRH to KBME that cannot be heard fifty miles out of Houston in the daytime and can't be heard outside the beltway at night.

Now at least they get to use a DH. Might help a little. But then again it's the Astros...

Talk about trying to maximize your profit potential.... oh, wait... They're the Astros. I wonder if they have the brains to suck long enough to become competitive like the Rays. Then I looked at their recent drafts and the only name that jumped out to me was Delino Deshields Jr., who stole 101 bases in a ball last year. They did jump from 25th to 10th best farm system in mlb, but will continue to suck for the near future until this organization gets some direction. At least they have the first pick in the draft to help stock the cupboard.

Uh...he's right on this.

They might be able to accomplish what the NHL Oilers did.

No, not 5 championships.

3 consecutive 1st overall draft picks. Now they have something to play for.

Every team will be chomping at the bit to play the Stro's this season.
